I've been hit by birdshot at ~150 yards when duck hunting. It bounces of light clothes like it was a handful of pebbles tossed by a five year old. There is no energy there.

This. I to have been hit by birdshot at long range. I could even hear it coming soon enough to turn my back to it.

The duck bill does not have density of the pattern. Density gives you range and penetration.

The duckbill might be a fun cheat for skeet where you have a giant rectangle pattern and 1 pellet can crack a clay

It was a neat concept that failed and is no longer manufactured for a reason

thanks a ton for that video. my shotgun is my backup home defense to my 9mm. i always have a lot of birdshot because i like to do trap/skeet, so i've always loaded up the shotgun with birdshot when its on backup duty in the safe. i'll be grabbing a box of buckshot and a box of slugs next time i'm at the store.

First off, why is your shotgun behind your 9mm? Second in my 590a1 I have my tube mixed. First shot #4 buck (27 pellet), second-fifth is 00 buck (9 pellet), last shot is a 3 inch magnum (00 buck 13 pellet) in case the first ones don't get it done. I have a 6 shot side saddle 4 00 buck, 2 slugs. Second line of defense is the Glock 21sf. Long gun first, pistol second my friend.

Yeah, would you rather trade several pistol rounds with an intruder or trade your 9mm round(s) for their shotgun blast? Better your shotgun blast be the last thing they hear and see if they are threatening/coming for your life. You are on familiar ground, may as well take advantage to make that life-saving shot with 00 buck or #4 hopefully before they can get a shot off on you. You deserve to survive in your own home so git er done!

I think its good for homedefense i know most will disagree but anybody in my small home gets shot with bird shot isn't walkin out alive

9mm is in my safe in my nightstand drawer. the shot gun is in the safe in the closet. 9mm is closer and easier to access. wife has practiced a few times, i get the 9mm out of the safe and while she gets the shotgun out i make my way to the kids room. been contemplating getting an under the bed safe for the shotgun, but i've already got 3 different safes in my house with various items and calibers in them.
