Being a single dad to 2 boys, my heart hurts for the loss of life. Regardless of the circumstances, why doesn't the father deserve to grieve? I'm willing to bet that he will be harder on himself than any other person could ever be.

Suicide would be an irresponsible thing to do if you are the main breadwinner in the family and the rest of your family will starve, your other child or children will have to grow up without a father and your wife will have to work hard to provide for herself and the children.

The wife will be pissed, but Jesus always forgives.

Observance of the 4 rules is all it takes to prevent these situations. It's unfortunate that some people have to learn them the hard way.

Completely preventable. So sad for the father, but it's done and now a lesson for all of us. Happens all too often.

I couldn't imagine, but suicide wouldn't be on option. While it would be the easy way out, it wouldn't be fair to my other child or my wife. It would be time to man up and take responsibility for my actions and accept whatever consequences were coming my way. No one could punish me more than I would punish myself for the rest of my life. JUST FOLLOW THE RULES. There's only 4, that when properly followed, will eliminate the possibility of these horrific accidents happening.

Sad sad news. As others stated, it could have all been avoided.
                    Condolences to the family.

Across the board no matter where you live and the laws of your area, guns belong in a case or a holster unless your shooting or in storage. Sad for the dad and an opportunity for all to learn or advise on safe transportation.

I really don't understand what went down. God forbid..if this was some kind of game that went wrong, this guy's really in mental hell. Could his gun have gone off while in the lockbox?
From what I read in the yahoo link article he was putting the (from the looks of it uncased) gun in the center console compartment and shot his son in the passenger seat.

This is terrible, all the more so because it could have been avoided. Unless it's in pieces I always treat my guns as if they are loaded. It's just not worth it.

It is a heart breaking preventable situation. I can imagine the agony that man is going through.

It makes me shudder to think of.

There are a lot of people who purchase firearms, for whatever reason, that don't take the time to learn more about them...be it something they just store away for HD, or just for a sense of safety, they never take the time to learn about important safety measures to help insure good handling of the gun

Unfortunately, most are unaware sites such as Calguns even exist
