Where did you find the definitions of residency?? I can't seem to find it.

Bad idea. Just buy them yourself, in California, or build 80% receivers.

Oops, I think you can only hold one DL. I have an AZ ID and a CA license. I even used my CDL as ID for my AZ ID. Are you sure he just doesn't have an AZ ID, they look just like a DL.

AZ gun laws are reasonable, much like California laws were 50 years ago.

I know people say it doesn't matter since they don't put the serial number of long guns on the DROS form like they do for handguns, but I also know that I have a carbon copy of a "DROS receipt" that definitely has my MN 91/30's S/N on it.

80% lowers are the only way to get a truly paperless AR as far as I know.
I agree with the 80% being the only way to truly not have a paper trail. But, to correct, while the DROS doesn't have your long gun SN on it, your 4473 (the ATF document you fill out) does. That's what the ATF gets if a shop closes, and that's what must be maintained for 20 years. DROS only exists in California

I am more interested now in getting info from those of you that have taken on the finishing of 80% lowers. Please refer to post #22 for my previous question.

Thanks again for all the help and advice
                    80% are easy to build.
I finished one in about 6 hours on a drill press. I did it while recovering from back surgery hobbling around on crutches.

My father in law resides in AZ and as we all know gun laws are pretty loose. Let us say for example (hypothetically speaking) I was to visit my father in law and he purchased 3 ar15 .223 lowers. As far as I know in AZ there is a quick BG check, no waiting period and no registering of weapons, and out you walk with pretty much anything like I mentioned. Let us say he was to give me these 3 lowers and I over time built LEGAL guns with them to suit CA gun laws.

Without this weapon being registered at all, what issues could arise. I do not go the ranges with my guns, I do legal desert DESOLATE shooting. Basically what I am trying to say is I do not want the government in my business. All of my other weapons are registered.

I have an idea what is coming in regards to answers but just curious.

Nothing. As long as both you and your dad kept out of trouble. Heck people can hide illegal SBR's and NFA items as long as no one else knows about it. The government doesn't have spy satellites watching our every move 24/7.

The trouble comes in if the Feds have reason to ask about the AR15 lowers. In 2004 during the D.C. Sniper incident LE all over the region were going around "interviewing" AR15 owners and ordering weapons be turned over for ballistic testing. If things go sideways in Arizona and a gang of bandits runs amok , the authorities may ask your pops about what happened to the lowers.

After that the story goes south for you. Picture 2am no knock warrant raid by the ATF and local California law enforcement to search your property for the lowers and whatever other goodies the Feds think you've got stashed around.

Compliance with gun laws has less to do with being detected and more along the lines of insuring yourself against serious consequences from a nosy constable.
