    Whats your SHTF gear?

Lets civil unrest has just exploded in your city or the closest major city to your residence, and you need to GTFO and head for the hills! Do you have a Bug out bag or some sort of emergency survival kit? Also what long arm and handgun would you bring(if you coudln't bring all of them due to time, space, etc)?

You seem well-equipped with many different sizes.

Nice. Doesn't this topic come up at least once a week?

If civil unrest became an issue and you were still in the city, you are SOL. Correct thing would be to get the hell out of the city when you were given the warnings (i.e. Flood warnings in Katrina). Granted there are unexpected natural disasters, if you were to be stuck in the city and were forced to leave your home/shelter for a good reason, you would be better off with a pistol; you won't have people/police trying to steal/confiscate your guns that they can't see.

Never be a refugee. Stay put if possible. Arnold signed a law in January prohibiting the confiscation of firearms in a Katrina type situation. You can't walk through the streets brandishing a firearm but the authorities can't show up at your house and clean you out just on general principles. Everyone should own a small pocket handgun to slip into the pocket during a Katrina syndrome in case you have to walk to an open market and there are unsavory types afoot.

I would take my pack with food, med kit, led flashlight, water purification kit, canteen, knife small misc items.
Firearms: If I could keep it out of site a 12g pump is ideal. A small handgun w/3mags (pocket pistol) if total breakdown rioting then a 45acp w/4mags in a shoulder holster if I couldn't avoid the people. Best way to survive is to stay away from the problem and leave early if possible as puppypower said.

The tin foil weenies make me laugh.

SHTF is rare. But, it happens. My house has never burned down. However, I have fire insurance and a smoke detector. Be prepared for SHTF.

So, the idea is to head to the hills where there may be no food, no pottable water, no emergency aid, and no real shelter. Now you're in an area suddenly filled with hundred's of gun toting people, with varying skills, carrying varying amounts of gear, and all in the same position. hmmm........are you sure that's safer?

If you've got skills, why not put them to good use. Join a reserve PD, reserve FD, 4wheel drive group, coast guard reserve, or other volunteer group. Most already have emergency plans. The upside, is that in time of civil unrest, the government will take care of its own first. So you get taken care of. And the other upside is the community service, and helping others aspect. Free 1st aid, or EMT training is always useful.

For a bug out bag? How about just making sure you have an emergency kit in every car. 1st aid kit, mirror, matches, water, candle, a little food, small tool set, jumper cables, emergency blanket.

Full battle rattle - Because I'm sure in the case of any SHTF situation my unit will get called up, just like Katrina and the San Diego fires or, "OPERATION: AUTUMN BLAZE" as it was called.

It was 'Fall Blaze'. I did 9 days with the CSMR. The money went for more guns and ammo

                            +1

I'll be on my roof with my .308. I'd much rather defend myself from gangs and looters, then be stuck in the woods with god only knows who or what. I know my neighborhood.

The only SHTF situation I'd leave town for is germ / bio warfare.

My bug-out bag previously was my medium sized Camelback stuffed with basic gear, like a knife, compass, multi-tool, aid kit, MREs etc. I carried it along in my Hummvee in OIF in the event I had to go to the escape and evade mode. I contained enough to keep me alive for a day or two of hiding out.

Now, scenarios have changed, and I'm looking at three sets of gear. First, I need a at-home bag I can grab and run with that has basic items that will keep me on the road for at least three days. This isn't really for SHTF, but more a short-fuze work deployment, based in hotels.

Secondly, I want a 3-day bag in each vehicle.

Third, I am putting together a rucksack that will contain more outdoors-related stuff that will get me thru a couple nights in the field, a little more extensive than the Camelback. While this will be the primary SHTF kit, I'll use it for hunting/shooting/fishing trips and other outdoors stuff.

I want to keep weapons and ammo separate in kits I can add to whatever scenario pops up.
