By shooting through your wall, how would you know who your target is? If you shoot and kill an innocent on the other side, you probably would be brought up on charges or at the very least be subject to some civil suit, just my .02

Here is the scenario:

The neighbors are in an arguement and end up shooting at each other. The bullets go through the cheap thin walls and into your apartment.

You don't know what is going on, and all of a sudden bullets come flying into your apartment through the walls.

Can you fire back in self defense?

Without an identified hostile target, firing a weapon in self-defense is begging for criminal and civil problems.

Better to go to cover, and call 911.
