Are my eyes going bad? (EOtech reticle question)

I just got a brand new EOtech XPS2-0, and I just turned it on right now to see how the reticle looks. I know you're supposed to keep both eyes open when you use it, and it is much clearer when both eyes are open (really fuzzy when one eye is closed).

However, I'm still seeing a fuzzy outline with the reticle. Is the EOtech supposed to be crystal clear with smooth & sharp lines? Or is there supposed to be a slight blur when using it?

Here's what I'm seeing. I've tried it on different surfaces and against different background colors. I've turned down the intensity of the reticle. I've also held it at different lengths from my face to see if it got better or worse. The "best" looking reticle I was able to see is how it looks below.

My EOTech is fuzzy. I've found that if I turn the intensity down to the lowest level that I can still see the reticle with, the fuzziness is reduced.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I'm 48 years old, and my vision is going down the crapper. Read above statement with that in mind.

A buddy bought an Eotech... we both thought it was broken when we saw the fuzzy reticle.

We read the instructions which said to focus on the subject, not the reticle. Sure enough, it sharpened up. e.g. point it at a wall. Focus on the wall and see what happens.

I have a few EOs and yes that is how the laser hologram looks. Once you look further away, it looks sharp.

I had a similar issue until I got LASIK...for me it was a slight stignatism that was corrected.

Check out the EOTech site under FAQs:

There is a thing listed for circle is fuzzy/hazy.

I got my exps2-2 Thursday and was disappointed initially when I tried it out.

I was getting a glare on the 1 moa dots. I turned down the brightness so the reticle is transparent against the target like it should be and focused on the target not the reticle.

Edit: I have astigmatism and I wear peracription glasses while shooting.

Like magic the reticle cleared up and I was putting holes in paper in short order.

On a weirs side note... my eotech was almost perfectly zeroed at 25 yds out of the box... WTF how is that even possible?

As people have already said, that's how it's supposed to look. The "perfect" looking reticules that the airsoft/counterfeit/etc. versions have is the dead giveaway that they're fake.

My EO-Tech's are also fuzzy. As the guys already mentioned they clear up when you focus on the target and not the sights. Great piece of equipment for fast target acquisition.

Well after playing around with it quite a bit tonight, my eyes just can't get adjusted to it and I'd rather go back to a red dot sight. I decided to sell it, even though it's brand new and 1 day old, since the store I bought it from won't give a refund. I guess the EOtechs aren't for me.

I thought mine was broke at first too. Mine works better when intensity as low as possible. Try positioning it closer and farther away on your rail also til you find a sweet spot that works for you.

eyes take big drop at 48yrs old, like clockwork.

my dad told me he first told his opti that his eyes couldn't seem to focus up close and his smart *** opti tells him "yes, we noted in your file last year to expect that". amazing.

Hmm... it's definitely going to be pixelated, but it should still be sharp and not exactly fuzzy or otherwise out of focus looking. I have an astigmatism and without my glasses on, my eotech reticle looks like a smeary/fuzzy mess. At the same time any red dot ends up egg shaped/fuzzy/wrong without my glasses on(in that eye anyway). It's possible you might have a minor issue and it's just not enough to be a major problem for every day living, or your prescription may have changed over time. The reason I mention this is because if the eotech is bad due to eyesight, depending on the nature of your eyesight problem a red dot like an aimpoint could be problematic as well.
