    walther p22 question

So I was just offered a Walther p22 from a family member. It comes with 2 holsters and 2 mags. I've never used one before so I was just wondering if anyone has and if so, how reliable are they? I heard that some older production ones had serious problems so what year should I look to avoid if that's true? Also what would be a fair price to offer on it? Thanks.

Head over to the Walther section of rimfirecentral.com for all things p22.
    250 -300 depending.

I have shot my Dads and the slide can drag on the hammer resulting in failure to feed...I took a file to the hammer and so far so good after 50rds of Thunderbolt ammo...i havent tried other ammo...some say it likes hot ammo...and its a pain to strip but i think Midway sells a tool that makes it easier

I had one for a couple years, those little suckers like CCI. Even then, maybe one FTF per 200.

Is is the 3.4", or target? Also assuming it doesn't have a laser?

        3.4, no laser, I'd offer it around 275 w/ 2 mags.

Yeah its the 3.4, no laser. Also, is it true that having a threaded barrel for a fake silencer is illegal here?

I believe so, never researched it tho. (Can't see the wiki from my phone)

That sucks. I wanted so it didnt look so small caliber-like. I guess I can go without it though.

Silencers, fake or not, are scary looking. Therefore illegal.

Yes, threaded barrels make it an "assault weapon". Interestingly, S&W sold many of these in CA with threaded barrels and then had to recall them to replace the barrels when somebody figured out that they had sold a bunch of assault weapons. I have a 5" that originally had a threaded barrel which was replaced by S&W. The letter they sent said they would replace it free of charge and if you didn't take them up on their offer, they would report you to the DOJ.

I haven't shot mine much but it works flawlessly with cheap Federal bulk ammo.

Yeah, I was thinking about getting one of these, but my father just gave me his old mossberg 500 and I cant fire it because the stock is cracked. I was thinking either buy the p22 or put about 250 into the mossberg (stock, fore grip, ammo, ect). Im thinking the p22 though because I dont have a 22 yet and would like something cheap to take to the range.

                      You've gotta have a 22.

I can kill an entire afternoon for $25... or $80-100 for one hour on 45ACP & 9mm. I try to find a happy medium.

My only concern is that the magazines for it are $30 each.

its a great little gun. Can be very picky with ammo though!! the only thing that cycles through mine is rimmington ammo

I've got one and it's a fun little gun. It was definitely partial to cci mini-mags for at least the first couple hundred rounds. After that, it seems that it's loosened up a little bit and will accept cci standard velocity for the most part. With mini-mags it rarely malfunctions but with standard it will FTE or FTF once every 20 rounds or so. I suspect that this will get better with time but I haven't been putting many rounds through it lately.

BTW it seems to be a great gun for first time shooters. The mini-mags create a pretty good fireball out of the barrel and gives the impression of being a much bigger gun than it really is. I always make sure I'm using mini-mags with new shooters because any kind of failure at all really freaks them out.

Magazines are a one time investment. Personally I only have 2 mags and I'm fine with that. Everybody should have a .22lr pistol that they ENJOY shooting. If you have lots of fun with the pistol, then the cost of another mag or two should easily be made up for with 3-4 range trips where you would have spent that much or more on a higher caliber.

If you find that it doesn't really float your boat, you should be able to sell it for about (maybe a little less or more) the same price that you bought it at.
