Who would have thought SD, Fresno, Stockton and Bakersfield would be so low in the poll. May'be San Diego for price/rent but definitely not the others and given the social political climates in those places, compared to LA and the SF bay area, I'm a little surprised.

It's all about location. We have a lot of members on the board from the LA area, and Bay area so generally they'll have more votes. What is ironic, is those areas already have dealers who would handle OLL. lolComment

I vote for Stockton/Tracy area. It's close to Sac, Merced and Livermore.sigpicComment

you forgot bacon,
i would say non of the above are good places to put in a gun shop,
northern mexico aka la. i just do not go there,
but the sac area it is a no go, lots of gun stores there all ready,
the sf bay area east or west are for the most part anti gun. san jose has a number of shops, there are some on the west side of the bay
and the only one i knew about in san leandro was forced out. (i heard) i do not shop in the bay area any more to far to drive just for high prices.
stockton is down to two shops and one is dieing out, the other is a full service sporting goods place. (high prices but they sell lots of guns).
how about calavers county maybe jackson??
.big gun's...i love big gun's

Jackson just doesn't seem like it's a great location. Kinda out of the way to get there. Just like as is Sonora would be. We have 2 gun shops in the area, one doesn't do OLL anything, and the other only does OLL transfers (they don't order, stock or sell OLL's). But we aren't in a good location to be centralized for a lot of other locations. Stockton is between the 5 and 99 and it's central path.sigpicComment

What kind of FFL?
What kind of FFL business?
- A small non-stocking FFL service to order OLLs and gear?
- A small shop with some guns, OLLs and ammo?
- Larger?
- Full service (rifles, pistols, shotguns, ammo, reloading, hunting, CCW, IPSC, etc?)
On paper sure. In San Jose there are 6 shops:san jose has a number of shops
- Reeds - good selection, high prices; no OLLs
- Sportsmen's - Small selection; average prices; no OLLs; high fees
- Castello's - Mostly knives, ammo & western long guns
- Mel Cottons - No handguns; no OLLs
- Young Guns For Hire - Unknown to me.
- The Gun Exchange - OLLs, large long gun selection, new/used hanguns, ammo, some hunting gear. Orders reloading & other gear. (And they're still waiting for their license so no guns can be sold right now).
In surrounding areas there are:
- Roger's Relics (Santa Clara) - nonstocking home business
- The Gun Shop (Santa Clara) few guns, few supplies
- Kerley's (Cupertino) - Very high prices
- Target Master's West (Milpitas) - Good selection; average prices; no OLLs; no reloading/hunting gear
- GunMountain (Gilroy) - mostly web-based sales
Of the shops in San Jose, if you want reloading gear, Reed's is about the only place to go actually see much of it. Mel Cotton's if you're a duck/deer hunter and want clothing too.
The sad part is, if you want a decent holster (not nylon and not a bulky "hunting" holster) almost none of the shops stock much in the way of holsters.Comment

Santa Maria has a good amount of FFL's and its sort of flooded but Lompoc doesn't have any real guns shop except Big 5s selection and there are plenty of shooter, hunters, and gun lovers in the town... And if you get one thats sell's OLL's you could make a good living over thereComment

Visalia needs an OLL-friendly shop. Otherwise, consider somewhere else in Tulare county.Pro-2A Transhumanist Techno-Utopian Luxury Communist. I build armed robots programmed to seize the means of production in order to produce our cyborg replacement bodies.Comment

Question, what would you FFLs do if there was a "Katrina" here in Cal where you were located? The whole kabudle, e.g. nothing learned nor done differently or better, just Katrina with a California twist. What's your general plan of action? (minus OPSEC details)

Uh, how about redding?
Nobody really deals in complete OLL's here or sells firearms for a decent price.
PPT/ transfer fees here will kill you with their unpredictable nature. $35 one day, $80 the next AT THE SAME STORE!
Sure, we have 3 gun shops now. I'd trade them all in (except nice shot) for one good friendly place to shop that won't kill my wallet by squeezing me for all they think they can get out of me.Murphy's Law - What can happen will happen at the least opportune momentComment

How about East LA County? Like Rowland Heights/Diamond Bar/Pomona area. I mean there's a Turners in Chino and 2 Big Fives nearby, but what I really want is an OLL friendly dealer.Comment

Damn FEDUPWBS, you really don't like this guy do you? Did he burn you somehow, other than not wanting to deal with anything other than AR OLL?
Either way, here's the credit I give him:
1) At the time I delt with him (early 06), his markup was 50% while everyone else at the time was closer to 200%.
2) He saves me $80 in gas and 8 hours in driving time to make the 2 round trips to go anywhere else for ARs.
I wish he would deal with other types of OLL such as NDS or PTR too... but its his choice and at least he's doing more than anyone else around our neck of the woods. If you know of someone else thats better thats local... please.. DO SHARE!
