For me, it's like therapy, guns are the doctors and bullets are the pills. I combine a little of both and I'm totally relaxed and cool.

They stopped calling it Golf about a year ago, it's now called "Oh Sh*t" I swore I'd never even try it. So far so good.

Guns calm me down.........whenever I'm at work and I get frustrated or tired, I think of the next handgun purchase...when I was living in a free state, I'd think of the next Kalashnikov clone I was going to build...its wierd, but it calms me down and comforts me.

liberals wouldn't understand, because firearms have the opposite effect on them. I remember my best friend in junior high was terrified of guns, even talking about them he didnt like them. We were drinking buddies and in every other respect he was a manly man. (except he is a devout dem) I don't really know why some people like them and some are terrified of them truthfully, but one thing you can always quote is what Frued or someone said about that subject....regarding fear of firearms and maturity.

Why do you love guns? Because you're insecure.

A gun makes you feel more secure in your life.

(like auto, life, and home insurance; smoke detectors & fire extinguishers; emergency medical kits; a helmet when riding a bicycle or motorcycle...)

like all of the above, only a fool or idiot needs such things, everyone knows the chances of being violently attacked or being in a fire or emergency, or falling off your bike as an adult is an unlikely situation

if you're ever robbed or assaulted, just give 'em your stuff or act crazy and they'll leave you alone

if they try to grab your wife or kid, just get aggressive; bullies always back down

(*please note the sarcasm as the above is a cliff notes version of a conversation I had with an anti-gun anti-preparedness neighbor. needless to say, him and his wife will not be getting any help from us in an emergency, though we'd take in their son and daughter for a while)

This is a lot of it for me. Choosing to repair cars as a career has caused them to loose their luster for me, it all seems like work. I have shot for years but never was avid about it so this has become my time killer.

I also like the fact that is something I can do with my kids and father that we all enjoy.

Why do I like guns so much? Because I have a small penis and trucks cost more.

all kidding aside, this is it. As males our DNA is coded to protect and hunt. All men have the basic urge, some just replace it with other things. They are fighting nature when they do...but thats another thread.

Without worrying about scaring anti-gun people:

It's useful in a very primitive sense. It's a weapon and it's useful insofar as it serves that purpose. I'm not saying that I like it because it can kill, but it's a combat skill much like fencing, boxing, archery, and so on.

Also, I resent the notion that "as males, our DNA is coded to protect and hunt." While that might be true to an extent, men aren't the only ones who should learn how to shoot; just like men aren't the only ones who should learn archery, fencing, etc.

I like them because they are awesome machines.

There's nothing like using a fully functioning and flawless machine from 60-100 years ago (for example)

Those thoughts came back to me on a stroll through WalMart's big screen section. A 42' LCD + HD game console runs about $800. How long will that stuff last? Maybe 10 years , perhaps longer.

As to firearms, well. There are 1911s still ticking today that were made in 1918! There are people carrying examples of Hi-Powers and 1911s that were made in the 40's and 50s. A handgun bought today can last decades with responsible care and maintenance.Unlike a modern cell phone, computer, TV, or nearly every other consumer good a firearm is durable and can save your behind from a bad situation. I have yet to hear of the carjacking that was thwarted by an Apple product, but plenty of bad guys are pushing daisies thanks to $500 Glocks.

A Macbook air won't keep you alive or save you from a mob, but that $1500 Kimber in your safe just might. As such spending money on firearms is less like buying a product, and more like investing in your and your family's future. In 20 years, the guns in your safe will still be around. You computer, TV, car, and current wife probably won't.
