I Love Guns. But Why?

I started thinking about my recent gun purchases and the joy I get from owning guns. It crossed my mind "why do I love guns so much?"

Here is what I came up with:
1. Because I like to talk to others who share in the passion. "Happens a lot less than I would've ever imagined"

2. They could protect me from harm. "Yeah pretty obvious, but I'm sure there is more to it than just that"

3. In case of societal collapse, I could shoot and kill my own food. "Okay there is a pretty good one, but that's not why, that's a by-product"

4. They look really cool. "They sure do, but how many things look cool? Lots!"

5. They tend to gain in value over time. "Yeap, but that's not why either"

6. They give one a sense of power. "Yea, but I don't feel that powerful to justify just for that reason"

7. Because as American's have the right too and many other Country can't. "That one should be higher up on the list as it's a pretty good one!"

8. Because shooting is lots of fun. "Okay, there is a another good one, as I do love to shoot"

9. Because Calguns has re-sparked my interests in guns and giving me an outlet to learn and share. "It's getting better and better"

10. Because I can and they make me happy!. "Winning"

Honestly its funny when anti gunners ask why I spend so much into them..

I honestly cant come up with anything more than its relaxing and fun..

But I cant explain why at all.. And that its a way to get out with the guys and be out in the desert free from society.

I like the idea of owning a gun because I am a free citizen. In medieval times, when a slave was freed, they gave him a sword as a symbol of his freedom. Slaves are not allowed to own weapons and to give someone a weapon gives them freedom.

To me its a relaxing hobby like golf, It takes pretty good body awareness and concentration to make consistent groups and for some reason, this helps me relax.

Because I'm am a guy who grew up in the 80's watching Rambo, Bradock, Predator and a whole bunch of western movies.
Used to play cowboys and Indians with cap guns all the time.

Why do I like guns?

I enjoy the hobby, i love learning about guns, reloading, and all that. Guns are a great tool that can do so much. And each gun has a purpose. Handguns, shotguns, and rifles have there own purposes.

I don't remember not having a gun of some sort.

I loved them when I was five, but I didn't feel any sense of empowerment from them at five, they were just fun to shoot.

51 years later I still don't feel any sense of empowerment from them because if you shoot someone except in a very narrow scope of self defense, lord knows the whole world will come crashing down on you...but I still love to shoot, and I like to have one for defense should someone try to break into my house or god forbid should anyone violate my daughters.

Lately I want to shoot better, and that's even more fun that just shooting, although I like to bumpfire my Mac 10's an rapid fire the Ma Deuce if I get to a area that allows it.

I grew up watching gunsmoke, bonanza, combat, and bat masterson, and when I smell hoppe's and powder burning it reminds me of pheasants bursting out from corn rows and geese honking overhead as a kid in the fields of northern Illinois.

And of course I like it because they are loud and I am a pyromaniac...





and they help make me smile...especially the deuce and my 44 mag Desert Eagles.

Because my parents told me at a young age I had to choose if I was going to be a drunk/doper or a sportsman/gun owner. I choose hunting and guns. It made my parents much happier. It makes me much happier also.
Now that I divorced my cheating wife I concentrate on my firearms and my daughter. The nice thing is the firearms will not cheat on me and they do not backtalk or backstab me. My daughter does not either. Plus when they get old they still look good.

Cause battleaxes are out of style nowadays. Seriously, we're one step removed from barbarians. It's a way to get in touch with your testosterone.

Shooting is like Zen for me.

But I look at the guns I own the same way as the tools I own, and others would probably judge I have too many of both.
