    Adding long gun to DROS

Ive always been sort of confused a little on this..

I have a GP100 in 13th day of DROS.. Going to pick it up today. I'm also planning on DROSing a long gun today..

From my understanding on searching the web a little you can add a long gun to hand gun/long gun existing DROS in the 30 days.

But not a handgun to hand gun or hand gun to long gun existing DROS correct?

    Dunno about that one.

I'm under the impression that, while you can add a long gun to an open long gun DROS, you cannot add a long gun to an open handgun DROS.

I'm always confused, as to the rationale of the State on stuff like this, but have learned to ignore 'common logic' on legal issues. It's never that simple.

I'd wait for one of the legal eagles to chime in on this one.

Yea I know I read all this stuff then pass it along then get reemed for being wrong..

I leave it to the experts now and ask them when I need an answer. CA laws and loop holes are like Spanish to me no matter how many different times and ways I read them.

It is debatable whether it is possible or not. The key is to ask the shop you bought the gun from. They are the only ones that will tell you whether they will do it or not. If they say no, I wouldn't argue with them since it really is seen as a gray area.

Mods can you move this to the legal section? Probably be better/faster answered over there.

Hopeing to get a for sure answer by 3pm when I go to pick it up.

I know we posted at the same time, but your gun dealer is the only answer that matters. Call them.

Yea I was just hoping to have an answer if they say I don't think so and are in sure as I am. I could let them know it was ok to do. But I don't know for sure.

I would call them but the last time I was on the phone and had a question about a legal thing it got all mixed up and didn't work out so well.

I know for a fact long gun to another long gun is no problem but the hand guns is where the blurry zone comes in for me.

With all due respect, I dont think that there is a shop out there that will take the word of a customer, any customer, on issues like this.

                I agree with Wes's post.

It is a very grey area...only in the sense that nobody (from the DOJ on down) seems to be 100% sure.

I would give the shop a call, and ask them how they handle these situations.

                best,

                g

I messages shark last night but he hasn't gotten back to me (shops calgun rep) from my understanding so I'm hoping to hear back from him but was wondering if anyone could give me any info on it.

I'm pretty sure that Shark is the owner of Riflegear.

                    Call them up, and ask them the following;

"I have an open hand gun DROS at your shop. Am I able to add a long gun to this open DROS, or do I need to start a second DROS for this long gun?"

                    Short, simple, to the point.

Feel free to quote me directly.

I do believe Riflegear does not add long guns onto handgun DROS. That is from my memory though. We do not add long guns onto handgun DROS at my store.

No, we do not add on long guns to handgun DROS, especially if the original DROS was a handgun PPT DROS.

We will add on long gun to long gun DROS, but we need to know up front that you will be adding on so we can run the DROS for enough long guns. Our DOJ auditor told us not to add on unless we run the original DROS for enough firearms to cover the add-ons, so we don't do that anymore. Although he did not cite a penal code violation, because I don't think there is one, we like to keep on his good side so we only do it on long gun DROS and only when you ask in advance.

Nice! Another quick response from Rifle Gear.

You guys are on the ball.

OP, does this answer your question?

Op, it really depends on the store. Some have told me yes and some have said no.

Depends on the store, I just picked up a revolver and was shown a rifle and told I could walk out with it today if I buy it today, as it can go on the existing DROS.
