I would never buy a firearm from big 5. I went through 5 870s before I finally got my money back. The people there were morons and the guy who " owns a bunch of" 870s didn't know what the hell he was doing.

He tried to put one of them back together after inspecting the bolt, when he grabbed the forend to put it in the box the gun fell apart. He then fumbled with it for about 30 min trying to figure out how the bolt fits into the bolt carrier. I knew how to do this at the time, I just wanted to watch him fumble, it was really funny.

Umm...there are 13 (Oxnard makes 14) DSG's in California. In the posts above, you will see locals are commenting on theirs. While not all have guns, some do, and a nice variety too. While not truly AR's or AK's, ours carries AR/AK .22's...which is a sight lot more than most sporting goods stores in this state.

If anyone is interested, the Dick's in Oxnard officially opens today (Wednesday 9/5), but they did a "short preview opening" of sorts today, so I was able to stop by... Good news...

They carry guns, ammo and hunting/shooting supplies! Plus a good selection of knives.

The guns were mostly shotguns and .22's, plus some bolt guns. Like Big5. Good selection of ammunition.

Regular and sales prices were both really good, and I saw a lot of guns below Big5 prices even when on sale. I'll definitely check Dick's next time I'm in the market for a gun (that's not an AK, AR or something similar because they don't carry those).

The ammo prices were also below Big5 from what I could see, and not much more expensive than Wal-Mart or online (especially with shipping costs)...

So good news all around. If anyone is local to the area, check 'em out.

the one in Modesto is average. if you sign up to receive email from them they send coupons. ammo sometimes is on sale. but for the most part they have crappy service.

They are almost done building one in my town. If they don't carry ammo or even guns, no point in me going in there. Just another big5. If Dick's carries guns, I hope they are AK's and AR's. But I doubt it (Especially in Cali).

This is because the mall, Westfield, has a anti-gun lease agreement/contract.

Westfield = guns are bad/scary so they are not allowed on the premises.

Not going to happen. You might find an AR or AK style in .22LR, but even that might be a stretch. They won't carry standard AR's or AK's, at least in California. Same with Big5 and BassPro, though those .22LR variants are easy to find at Big5.

Too bad they have some funny sales man. Telling a guy a 223 REM shoots 4,500fps and its much flatter then a lot of high power cartridge, its the reason why they us them in the military....but they do have firearms and ammo.

The Escondido Dicks doesn't carry guns or ammo. The Sports Authority down the street has air rifles and all the Big 5 in the area has long guns and ammo.

The one in South OC doesn't carry guns and to me, it's just like Sports Chalet but Sports Chalet is closer.

Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. Jefferson's "Commonplace Book," 1774_1776, quoting from On Crimes and Punishment, by criminologist Cesare Beccaria, 1764
