    California Dick's Sporting Goods ???

A new one is being built near me and I have never been to one before. How are they are prices with ammo and guns? What brands do they usually carry?

How are their prices in general on items compared to Big 5?

    Thanks

I went to the one in Pasadena and they had no guns and ammo whatsoever.

Some locations in CA carry firearms/accessories, some don't. You'll have to see which you're getting.

I can't compare directly, but in Virginia, the guns are priced decently, and the ammo is reasonable when on sale.

The one in upland used to be a Chick's Sporting Goods, I don't remember seeing any firearms or related items there. I do remember their prices being a bit higher on clothing and other items.

The one in Modesto has been disappointing from a gun, ammo and hunting eq. standpoint. Inventory and service is very spotty, large amounts of very little...

The newly opened SLO store carries Rifles, Shotguns and only Rifle, Shotgun ammo. "We don't sell handguns, we don't sell handgun ammo"
                Prices... Meh.

The one that was built in El Cajon a couple years ago is a joke! No guns, no ammo, and the selection of camping gear was pretty weak.

There is a new one in Oxnard which should be opening within the week... I can't confirm if they will carry guns or ammo, but I'm sure they will. The next closest one is in Moorpark, but they don't carry guns or ammo.

When I was on vacation up north near Morro Bay, that location did carry guns and ammo. I bought some Tula AK ammo which was right on par, I think $5 or $6 per box (same price as Wal-Mart/online/etc). Everything else seemed decently priced, the guns included.

Overall, I'd expect them to be a little cheaper than Big5, because Big5 jacks up their prices to make their weekly sales seems like a discount.

I'll know for sure once their new location local to where I'm at opens for business (that is, if they carry guns or ammo).

EDIT: I'd like to note that Dick's is not the only retailer that won't carry guns or ammo at certain locations here in California. I've been to several Wal-Mart's that don't sell either and even several Big5 stores that don't sell either as well. It depends on city or county regulations and permits, and even federal licenses. The Big5 in Camarillo did not carry guns for a few months after they opened because of FFL License delays.

Dick's, while big, carries only a "suggestion" of sporting good varieties. In the San Luis Obispo store, the gun selection is the largest single item in the place. Basically, they carry a few items of interest in each "sport" catagory.

Prices are competitive, but cerainly no bargain when not on sale.

There is a plus to the SLO gun selection though; one of our San Luis Obispo Sportsman Assoc. board members works there

I had no idea they even carried firearm stuff. I've been to a few of them and they never have anything firearm related so it never crossed my mind. Interesting, I'll have to find one that has some stuff.

From what I've seen Big 5 sale prices always beat Dick's sale prices. If it's not on sale, don't buy from either.

I went to a Dick's in western NY and they had a great selection of firearms. Kind of like a giant Big 5 otherwise though. Prices were reasonable.

I was at a Dick's in the Mid-West a couple of years ago and they had everything, including AR/AKs and High-cap mags. It was a fully stocked gun store with a long rack of rifles.

I doubt we'll get that luxury here, even if a Dick's opens in CA, since California already has a bunch of Dicks in Sacramento.
