I believe you just can't have the receiver (the part that has the serial number/makes the gun work) without an FFL as you would be receiving a firearm illegally since you are not/are not going through, an FFL. The person could stay there while you did the work, but they'd need to take it when they go.

This information is correct. Your work is absolutely amazing... that photo on your web site of the young lady in the ACU top and pistol blew my mind. It took me a second to even SEE the pistol. I wish you lived closer to me, I'd get you some work for sure!

Getting your FFL can be a long process, and occasionally a real PITA. Check out the FFL's section here for information on how to get started (if you haven't already) when you turn 21.
