i usually don't say this but... that guy is a *****. man up and tell your wife you have a legitimate need/use/want for one. if she says no then still go out and buy one. you would think a person who cares for the well being for their family would reason that no one will protect them from danger. that the only ones who can are themselves. if they want to have the police do it for them, then they better snap the **** out of it; because when seconds count the police of minutes away.

There must be a lot of sinle guys posting in this thread if you were really married you would be amazed at this man who has ONLY lost his second ammendment right to his wife. I lost nearly all of mine.

Author of the article seems young, by description of plastic pellet guns. In my day it was BBs or nothin. I asked my mom once for a BB gun and she flat out refused but offered to buy me a 22lr or a .410. She was a smart Lady and new exactly what I planned to do with the BB gun which I would not have done with a .410, namely shoot my friends under the high power lines in our backyard.

That said the real problem in these scenarios is negotiation and communication. how about both man and wife attend a basic pistol class with live fire. Say, "I understand you are not comfortable with guns honey, but I am uncomfortable with not being informed about something as serious as a firearm, how about we both take a class before we come to finite conclusions.".

I have yet to meet someone who after a friendly and well led class and actually firing a pistol is not in some way drawn to shooting.

He needs his man card revoked permanently. It's like all those threads you see: "How do I tell my wife I bought a X?" or "Trying to convince the wife that I can...".

It's kind of sad. I don't tell my fiance what to buy with her money (even if $30 for face soap is a rip-off) and she doesn't tell me how much I can spend on guns. Last time I came home with a lower receiver, parts kit, and ammo in one week she asked "How much did that cost?" my response was "A lot."

I was raised around guns from my parents and both of my grandparents(grandma was an armed guard for Kerr-McKee and United Nuclear). Being raised by a single mom does not make a guy a whimp, pu**y whipped or any other derogatory name. Ask my sons or my husband and you'll find out, it's because I was a single mom that both of my boys learned these thing, didn't need a dad around to teach them to shoot. And they also know to stand their ground and if the girls they date don't respect their rights to own guns or bow or hunt or anything, those girls don't stay around very long.
Not all single moms are as cool as you, but what I was getting at was that boys raised by a single mom tend to do what mom says and without a male figure around to challange moms rules once in a while, they roll that "yes mom" attitude over into marriage and it becomes "yes dear".

Lets start by saying Ive been Married 33 years, When I was a cop in the early 80's she would go shooting with me and my friends.
Now she wants nothing to do with guns and has tried to "put her foot down" I told her "who in the hell does she thinks she is "just because she does not like it does not make it wrong" and she needs to get over it and deal with it.
Ive not had a problem since.
Although Any money I use on my gun hobby comes from side jobs, she is always trying to figure out how I do it.

+1 there. Find out before you sign the contract; it's a lifetime contract with one hell of an early termination fee.

My wife likes guns, that wasn't always the case. Bottom line is that we made a deal, I can have as many pistols as I want, but the only rifle I can have is a .22. She enjoys shooting pistol with me and the safe is getting full.

I wasn't gonna go for the no gun policy, so it was compromise on my part and education and practice on hers.

Bottom line is that I don't care for the macho "whipped" comments, it's a two way street, and anyone who complains about being "whipped" hasn't been whipped properly...

The women that have been in my life all had fathers that were gun guys.

And gave their daughters guns, long before they met me.

                                Never a problem for me.
