    SHTF.... again! :)

I saw this post over at the highroad. It presents the views of a gentleman who was stranded at his father in laws house during Katrina.

Nice I need to work on my quake kit as well. During New Years I knew that I would need some serious firepower since I was amazed at the amount of idiots that lived in my neighborhood. First siren I heard was 1 whole hour after the "celebration".

If the SHTF then living in the city and esp. being in California is gonna be a big PITA.

There are currently many prediction for a big zombie attack in 2012. Whether there is one or not I'm going to be ready just in case.

Actually, besides your home kit, stocking up on supplies, and making a plan, I would volunteer with one of the local agencies like the fire department, coast guard reserves, police department, 4x4 Jeep club, etc. I got free EMT training through the fire department a few years ago.

Volunteers are generally welcome, they all have emergency plans, and you know they will take care of each other first in time of civil disturbance.

Did you watch that show on the history channel? I heard that 2012 was supposed to be the apocalypse. I haven't heard about a zombie outbreak that year though. I just figured we;d get hit by a comet or what not.

I live in an apartment in Los Angeles and if anything "big" does happen, you can count on there being no way to leave the area. Imagine the 405 during rush hour times 10. Yeah, no SHTF vehicle gonna' move through that! Unless it is a hot-air ballon (I am actually thinking of that).

The best thing I can hope for is to wait out whatever goes down. Oh and my wife is Mexican and she said that, of course, we will have to help all of her extended family, even though they have no supplies, no survival skills and would rather enjoy watching me do all the work.

I look at 2012 this way; if this is a true event, then it marks the END, not the beginning. So if we are hit by a comet, then it may happen on the 5th of December or heck for all we know, it could hit tomorrow and it takes until 2012 for the world to die. In other words, the beginning of the end may have already started.

All the best advise for most of us urban folks, especially those of us with small kids, would be "Stay Put" and batten down the hatches. As long as you have basic supplies and a good supply of ammo you should be OK.

Remember the adage "The best laid plans etc", with the codicil of an ex CSM, "Often go up the spout"
