    Really?
There are some great LDS unit leaders and there are some traditional unit leaders that couldn't find their butt if they used both hands.
As a Commissioner, I've dealt with them all. In a volunteer organization, sometimes you just have to play the cards you are dealt.

    Then said He unto them...
"and he that hath no 1911 designed by my servant John Moses Browning,
let him sell his garment and buy one."
And they said, "Lord, behold, here are two Glocks."
And He said unto them, "Meh, it's a good start."

      Great idea!

My nephew just bridged from cub to boyscouts.

Take a look at the BSA 10/22 davidsons has on their website for a bit of inspiration.

I believe some one here on CGN does laser engraving.

I concur on SureShot Precision, they engraved my lower and it came out phenomenal and a great group of people to work with (on their site the one with the polar bear is mine). From one Eagle Scout to another tell your son congratulations.
Gun control is a 1" group at 500 yds!

Congrats to your son!! I earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1988. Man, i just aged myself. There are some great ideas on here. I love the dust flap haveinv "Be Prepared" on it. That would be sweet! The American flag on front of the magwell is a beautiful touch. Maybe an eagle head on the the lower would be nice. Just a opinion from a Eagle Scout. If you need any help on anything, please let me know. Eagles always take care of each other.

Great gift; congrats from another Eagle from 1978. Scouting was a big part of my childhood. Glad I had a good troop with active fathers who provided excellent male role models.

Update. On Dec 19, 2012 my son passed his board of review and joined the ranks as a Eagle Scout. Attached are some pics.

The rifle is a RRA that has been Cerakoted with a digi cam pattern. The barrel is by Vytamenc and is stainless steel, mid length, 20" and fluted. Sureshot Precision Marking did the custom engraving for me.

I decided to go simple and just put his name date and troop # on the mag well but I did have "BE PREPARED" engraved on the inside of the dust cover. Cerakote made a stencil of the Centennial Eagle Scout logo and put that on the butt stock. I'll post some more detailed pics of the engraving later.

Thanks everyone, the pictures don't do it justice. I know it won't be a safe queen either, we went to the range the day after he received it and put 200 rounds though it. He has it dialed in at 100 yards.

One proud dad moment happened when he opened the bag the rifle was in. In front of everyone at his court, the first thing he did was to pull the bolt back and clear the action before really looking it over.

From a Star Scout (Beaver Patrol Leader at your service, SIR!!!!!!), congrats to your fine son and you for being a great dad. The AR is a wonderful idea. If it were me, I'd engrave a standard 20" fixed stock/triangle heat shielded AR. More real estate to laser engrave the American flag and everything Boy Scout (Motto, Oath, Tenderfoot thru Eagle Scout badges, years participated, personal messages). Do it! You both deserve this!

I'd rather have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
