Great idea, and congrats to your son. I felt all the commemorative stuff (henry rifle, lamps, hats, etc) seemed to celebrate the Scouts in general. To each their own, but a simple engraving of the eagle logo, name, and date would suffice. The grandfathers gift to me was a knife he made by hand with what I described. I will never part with that blade.

As a long time Scouter, congratulations to your Eagle candidate. One of my sons is an Eagle Scout, and the other earned the Venturing Silver Award.
I know this isn't Eagle Scout specific, but Ruger makes B.S.A. laser engraved 10/22's that are beautiful.
          Then said He unto them...
"and he that hath no 1911 designed by my servant John Moses Browning,
let him sell his garment and buy one."
And they said, "Lord, behold, here are two Glocks."
And He said unto them, "Meh, it's a good start."

          Luke 22:36-38 (somewhat paraphrased)

The engraved AR should definitely include the motto: "Be Prepared"
Hat's off to you both from a fellow Eagle (my Father and Grandfather are also both Eagle's). It's not an easy task and I bet you had to nudge here-and-there to get it accomplished.

I too like Fate's suggestion for the motto. Keep it simple I think.

My father's gift to me was a Ruger 10/22.

As a fellow Eagle Scout I want to congratulate your son as well before this is locked. My 2 cents are to keep the engraving simple. Too much clutter and it may lose it's meaning. But what a great idea!!!

"Be Prepared" engraved on the inside of the dust cover. Eagle emblem on the mag-well. You may be able to put the Oath on the upper receiver....

Oh, and if I know the OP, this won't be a safe queen.

haha. Im not offended by it. I wasn't Mormon at the time I was in Boy Scouts. I did become one after though. I was just wondering if there is something bad about LDS Scout Troops. My experiences were very positive. But I understand people like to talk trash so its kool.

definately get the Eagle emblem engraved with "Be Prepared" and "Do a good turn daily.".

This is such cool idea. Congrats to your boy from another former Eagle Scout. I'd try to throw an American flag on the receiver somewhere as well. I'm partial to the front of the magwell.

That looks awesome! Is that a blue anodized receiver? I didn't think about adding color to the rifle parts, I'll have to think about that some more.

Some have the reputation of pushing the boys through the program and through ranks, not making the Scouts work for it but just churning out Eagles. My experience is that there are plenty of troops that do this, both LDS and not. I hire a lot of 18-25 year old's, many put Eagle Scout on their apps and resume's, my first questions is which Troop? I've been in the area long enough to know with the answer of this question if I should be impressed or not.
