Everyone thinks they are the main character in this movie, but we're really all red shirts in someone else's show.

I could always join a gang - kill the leader and then take over these fools and re-organize them.

So let’s just hope no shtf just yet.

As far as carrying a long gun out in the open, I can see an ambush / sniper head shot / or some band of LE taking that away from that person. Yes a long gun is gtg but unless there is all out war - maybe not so much. Pistols will be primary carry - that’s what was going on in the LA RIOTS / Northridge eq. Yes the Koreans had the roof but they did not wander out into the chaos, which I don’t plan to either.
Yes, if you are anywhere close to civilization such as Los Angeles I think the best option is to shelter in place for as long as possible. Believe it or not, there are a small handful of residences that are fully set up for such occurrences, in that they have good, reliable sources of potable water, large gardens that have been producing, poultry, food stores, solar generation, etc. These are all within thirty ~ miles of you (west end of SFV) and are very well hidden and well protected. Key is that they are under the radar, and designed to be so. I’m sure there are more, but the point is that the inhabitants will be sheltering in place, and their lifestyle won’t change too drastically (except for their daily trips out for coffee 🤣).

Yes I have some things that will keep me inside for a while ~ I don’t expect a month long disaster- I believe the LA Riots / Northridge that I lived through didn’t last too long, but it’s always good to over extended more of what you need.

Being in the city ~ there might be a few good people left / but I hope they do stay hidden from the rest of the crowd.

Thank you for posting , I did appreciate the information 🙂
        Hope all is well !!

Amazon Pharmacy will fill every refill on your prescription regardless of the refill interval allowing you to stockpile for the duration of the prescription period. Over the course of a few weeks, I refilled an entire year's worth of medication. Fortunately, I don't need the medication to survive.

Stockpiling prescription drugs would only take one just so far in that all prescription drugs have an expiration date in relation to effectiveness.

For a short or moderate term catastrophe, such stockpiling is not only a good idea, in many ways, it's advisable. Likewise, there are often 'alternate' drugs (some of them simply 'older' and not 'newly marketed') which, while being potentially different in terms of their effectiveness for your particular issue(s), might allow for an 'increased size' stockpile.

For 'the apocalypse,' I think we're all going to have more 'immediate' issues than running out of prescriptions or having our prescriptions go out-of-date. Then, there's always the proverbial question, will surviving 'the apocalypse' actually be worth it; i.e., will you not only survive, but will you be able to thrive. Of course, in the event of 'the apocalypse,' there's always the possibility that one could 'raid' the pharmacies and create a stockpile, at least for awhile, as the roving hordes are unlikely to be looking to loot your prescription requirements. Then again, what will happen if you develop something 'new,' requiring medications you don't already take?

In short, these kind of things can be interesting mental exercises and while it never hurts to 'be prepared,' the reality is that no one can be properly prepared to every contingency. It's just that, when viewed properly, the 'entertainment value' of the exercise itself can potentially help one forget about the problems forcing them to take the prescription drugs. So... Enjoy what you can while you can. 😎

Let's not forget the "I'm going to take over the local market/Costco/Walmart/Sam's Club" mentality. Yeah. You and thousands of others are thinking the same thing. Good luck with that cage fight.
If you don't have some bare minimum of basic necessities for even a few days for fire/earthquake/power outage/etc then you are way behind the power curve IMHO.

It is not the Pharmacy but the Insurance that puts the refill time on your Pharmacy benefits. For mail order, Insurance will allow time to fill so your items can be mailed. To fill at local Pharmacy, the mail time is not needed, so more restrictive.

Filling Narcotics or Opioids are even more restrictive.

Well I guess that plan is a no go, guess I’ll reassess my plans and just take over the block 🤣.
That or join the neighborhood gang become the leader and like that I’m 50+ strong.

Another issue is having enough guns to penetrate cars - because during the LA Riots / Northridge eq there were gangsters cruising around looking for easy targets.

A little ms car - ( that’s slang for a small Nissan / Toyota ) tried to ram a 3/4 ton truck - so people do loose their dang minds and will try to make anything work for their cause.

I’m good for a while and a while is good for now 😉

The ocean is where all the reliable food is located. Good luck living off of squirrels and crows in "the backcountry". Sure you might find larger game if you're lucky, but that won't last long in SHTF.

In younger times / days I'd have gotten the boat and cleared the golden gate as fast as possible and keep going. Now; I'm too old for that ^&*% so I'll stay home. If the hoards come trust there will be a few less of them when they reach your home.

I'm in the same situation but my livestock would run out of feed in about two months. The solar inverter could power the well to fill my storage tanks. Our tank pumps are solar.

My meat processing is already off grid, but eventually we'd run out of propane and have to burn wood. There's probably 10 years worth of wood scattered around.

Watching the panic unfold in the white, affluent liberal communities would be epic entertainment. Watching them attempt to ransack a Costco or Target for example; they would get really pushy and rude in their Teslas and Range Rovers.

Today in Reno, no need to bug out. Place is full of Veterans and home of National Guard. Lots of Conservative folks in Northern Nevada. While it also has some leftists, my bet THEY would be the ones bugging out for Sacramento or Bay Area.

You do realize that in a real SHTF it is a 90% causality rate.
