The feds claim marijuana is illegal yet they themselves still give marijuana to about 17 patients across the US. How can they expect others to follow the rules when they do not do it themselves. What is good for them should be good for everyone else.

I don't agree or condone drug use, but if the voters of California made the using of pot legal for medical purposes. I don't see where the Federal government should be able to overrule what the people of any state votes for. I don't care what the issue is because the government works for the people and the people of California passed the law.

Also, if Federal law supercedes state laws, than why is it illegal for us to own "Assault Weapons" or standard capacity magazines in the great state of California?

Federal law allows us to own Assault Weapons and Standard capacity magazines, but it's illegal under state law.

State law allows the use of Medical Marijuana, but under Federal law it's illegal.

All I know is that they pick and choose what side of the law is enforcable, but it seems that the side they tend to pick reduces our freedoms. Just doesn't seem right to me.

5-10 isn't enough IMHO. The penalty should be castration, double castration. Maybe then these scumbag druggies will learn what not to put in their bodies.

I don't know.. My Uncle passed away two weeks ago from brain cancer and when I went to visit him one day I saw a marijuana pipe and medical marijuana brownies sitting next to him. I asked him if it helped or if it was just a fluke for drug use. He said it helped him with his nasea and the chemo destroyed his appetite, so the marijuana helped. It also helped with his depression because he knew that his time was limited.

I guess in the eyes of Federal law, he's better off dead since he was a felon because he owned a couple of Glocks and used medically prescribed marijuana.

Yes, there are scumbag druggies that make up some stupid excuse to get high, but if it helps a dying person rest, eat, and at least take his mind off of death. Does that make them scumbag druggies that need castration?

Again, I'm not promoting the use of marijuana to get high no more than I promote getting wasted on alcohol or using "legally" prescribed narcotics to get high, but what makes marijuana so different in the use for medical purposes than any other drug prescribed by a physician?

Exactly, with several months to heal in between.

Really, it shouldn't surprise anyone that the ATF considers a generally law abiding gun owner with a MMJ card on equal grounds as your average crack head with a pocket pistol looking for his next fix; the irony of which is that the crack head likely didn't fill out a 4473 . Would anyone really expect the ATF to relinquish any power over gun owners, or even take it off the table as an option?

I was being sarcastic. The double castration is a line from fear and loathing where H.S. Thompson imagines the judge handing down their sentence for giving a minor LSD.

I'm sorry to hear about your uncle and if using MMJ helped him I'm glad he had the opportunity. I'm generally of the opinion that the gubbermint has no business telling people what they can or cannot put in their bodies.

I am on the fence... Losers just want to abuse the system for a "script" suck, while others that need it for a "genuine medical issue" may be hindered.

For the losers: I would say can't have it bother ways, but
for the "Genuine Need" patients: they may have an issue with defending themselves because of all the scumbags due to "Obama's 'WINNER' economic plans".

I am not one for MMJ card carrying, or use, but maybe there is medication that is cheaper for the "genuine medical patients" that will let them keep their protection legally.

So someone with a MM card and a gun is a felon, but someone with a prescription for Marinol (synthetic THC) and a gun is just a guy with medication?

                            Red is my edit

Federally, yes. Although I doubt that using guns is suggested while on Marinol

Thanks, sorry about my reaction. Just lost a good guy in our family and it hit a nerve..

I actually had a conversation with my Dad back when marijuana became legal for medical purposes. He's an anesthesiologist and patients have to tell him their use of marijuana and he told me that he's suprised on the amount of usage of it. About 70% of his patients admit to smoking or using marijuana for recreational use. You would think that most of them would be young pot head losers, but he said many of them are older professionals in their 50's and 60's. (ie. the 1960's Baby Boomer generation)

I also asked him what his thoughts and experience were comparing alcohol to marijuana users. He hasn't experienced someone getting in a brawl, stabbing, shooting, car accident, motor cycle accident, beat his wife and kids, or other violent activities. At least not on the usage side of marijuana compared to alcohol abuse. He has seen shooting victims of drug deals gone bad involving marijuana, but he said that if there was a choice between the two. The detriments of alcohol has far outweighed the usage of marijuana in his experience.

By the way, my Dad has never written a prescription for marijuana and he admitted to me that he smoked it one time when he was in medical school. It made him so paranoid he never touched it again...lol

I just thought it was an interesting perspective and I was surprised on what his observations were of pot smokers.
