Terrible Day at the Range - Advice Needed

Yup, I don't disagree. My AR-15 chamber is not a special chamber. I bought the upper as a complete kit. I think it is a Stag upper.
For the .38's, I'll stop going so low. I tell ya, it was a dream shooting that .38 with such low recoil, until the snow cone appeared. I am probably going to buy a .327 mag for the wife and use factory ammo. Worst case scenario, I'll use .38 wadcutters.Comment

I had this happen once when I loaded up some light loads for my Dad to shoot at the range. He passed before we had a chnce to go shooting. This was quite a while back but it was with 125 gr plated bullets in .38 SPL and the only thing I could figure out was that the load was too light for those bullets.Last edited by Calif Hunter; 06-23-2024, 3:57 PM.👍 1Comment

The only squib I ever had was with 38 Special with 125 gr plated bullets too. I was not going for a light load but just thinking economical. So I did 0.2 grains less that what I usually do with W231.Comment

FIRST TEACHABLE MOMENT:
I was developing light loads, but not that light. I am positive there was powder in the case. I dropped the powder from a single stage press, then using a flashlight, checked every case to ensure no missing powder or double charges. I was very very careful loading these because they were going to be for the wife.
What am I missing?

Any HELPFUL advice is appreciated. All other advice, well, . . . . fine. I dish it out. I can take it.Comment

OP said he fired multiple shots that may not have left the barrel, so that may actually be "a bit more" or "some". In any case, it's a sign that a little more care is needed in handloading (yes that is being facetious.)
A smith once told me he had a police officer bring in his revolver to clear the 6 HBWC bullets stuck in the barrel. I've seen photos of other instances of stacked pistol rounds lodged in a barrel. It happens, I guess.

Both bullets weighed 158 grains.
I had 3.2 grains of powder. I think it is Titegroup.?
These two statements seem at odds...
What am I missing??
