    Plugs or muffs?

Just wondering what most people use for ear protection. I tend to go with plugs. Just because when I wear muffs and shoot rifles, they tend to get in the way. What say you?

Had some custom molded ones made. Expensive but work great and they should last forever. Makes shooting rifles much easier.

Electronic muffs. If shooting long guns, will often add foam plugs in addition.

Both - with the right electronic headphones it works out well. And if you are moving and there is a chance the muffs come off - you have backup so you don't need to get the habit of saying "what did you say..... Say again..?!."

When shooting shotgun or AR pistol indoors, both. When shooting less loud guns indoors, just muffs (electronic). When shooting outdoors, just muffs. They don't get in the way of cheek weld for me.

I always double up with plugs and muffs.

I use plugs. Unobtrusive and compact.

                  SureFire EarPros w/ electronic muffs

Sometimes muffs only if shooting pistols outdoors

generally, my ears ring if I don't double up- the EarPros & muffs are a compromise as foam plugs offer greater protection, but I can't hear a darn thing

I prefer muffs, as I don't like the sensation of plugs in my ears.

That being said, sometimes the muffs get in the way.

Plugs offer the most stand alone protection (when worn properly).

Ear muffs aren't as effective but are far easier to use and wear correctly.

Doubling up doesn't double your protection. If you wear a foam plug with a NRR of 33 DB and muffs with a NRR of 25 DB, your total NRR will only be about 38 DB. Not 58 DB.

It is a common misconception that doubling up, doubles the protection.

Many of you listed other advantages to doubling up. Slight increase in protection. If muff fall or come off, back up is already in place.

Muffs. They are no problem for me. I am use to them. I have regular ones and electronic. I also carry extras and plugs for people who forget theirs.

Mostly electronic muffs but will add plugs - just depends on what I'm shooting at the time.
