Ya I looked into the 17hmr rifle thinking it would be another cheap ammo like .22. But dang it was it was not cheap, so no 17hmr for me.

I do think the 17hmr would be fun though. I hear within 100 yards they are like lazers.

Hey, different strokes and all that. If you pay for the range time, you should be able to shoot at any distance with whatever you brought. Not to say it isn't ridiculous, but hardly an idiot. I live in Oceanside, CA and thus very close to Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base. I can't tell you how many times I have seen young Marines shooting AR15s at targets 7 yards down range, I have even seen a couple shooting a Springfield M1A at a silhouette target 10 yards down range. Silly, probably, but hey, to each his own.

In photography we call people that go buy a DSLR and think they are photographers, GWC or Guy/Gal With Camera. Meaning a neophyte who has no idea what he/she is doing but labels themselves as a photographer because they have the resources to buy professional gear.

I'm a n00b, does the gun world have a similar thing for just what the OP is describing? I guess, I understand a scope for anything 50 yards or more, but 25? Perhaps the operator needs corrective lenses, not a scope?

Nah, some people just learn at different paces. I shoot most of my handguns at no less than 20 yards and my snubbies at 15 yards. I know that the statistics show that most fire fights are in the 7 to 10 yard range, but for me, there is no challenge in that. I shot bullseye as a younger man and just got used to shooting at 25 yards minimum. It's kinda fun to watch noob's faces when you bring in your target and they see you can hit the 8, 9 and 10 ring on a target at that distance with a handgun. I for one don't like to put people down based on their marksmanship skills because I remember when I couldn't hit a bull in the *** with a bass fiddle. Shootin takes practice, alot of it.
