does anyone actually like going to the range

I used to go to one range but $20 each time and heavy crowds with no parking has put an end to that. I still go to Angeles Shooting range however the dipsticks who keep messing with their firearms during cease fire gets old.

i like only certain ranges. burro for their private and prado for pistol/rimfire rifle.
and only on off times.

I like outdoor ranges but not a fan of indoor ranges. But if I had a choice of open area vs. a range I’m going to choose the open area every time. It’s just that the range is sometime more convenient (20 minutes away) vs. blm land or the desert which is an hour away.

Just joined an outdoor range (actually my son did - they are taking juniors immediately) so pretty excited about that. My preferred indoor range, Iron Sights, is very busy on weekends and evenings. I go there 2-3x a month on off hours (I have a flexible schedule) and really enjoy it + the staff is awesome!

So yes I love going to the range. I echo your dislike for crowds and dangerous shooters though.

I do understand why some of these things aren't allowed. The main reason is that some people aren't capable of doing these safely.

Some places are fire prone and this is a GOOD thing, or their backstops weren't designed for certain types of ammunition.

We go to ranges to shoot in matches. Most of the people there thats aren't in our matches couldn't hit the broadside of a barn 50' away. They belong out in the open desert, by themselves.

Nothing makes an activity unpleasant like increased popularity. We need more ranges, including some with "tire houses" where you can go make once-fire brass as fast as you like. OLD range guys want to go home at night without holes in them, so get cranky. Some of us old shooters prefer to make very small groups with ten shots rather than scatter lead with 100. We need ranges that can support both.

Nothing beats the desert. Nothing. Everything I can do at a range I can do in the desert with only WAY funner and only a couple of friends. Yeah there is a 1 and a half hour drive but it's worth it. Helps save on ammo.

I mostly shoot 22cal benchrest at 50yds and as long as the guy next to me isn't deafening me through my hearing protection (2 layers) I have a great time. I do get frustrated when I shoot handguns because I like to practice double taps so I do that a lot less. But I've found most places will allow double taps as long as they aren't crowded and you ask first.

I see you are near Lockeford, Sac Valley IS GREAT! I used to be a member and shot more there than I do now when I can step out my front door and shoot steel out to infinity. The people there were great (once you got off the public range). I never did get to the action pistol we just mainly spent time on the steel range, and it was a blast! I really miss those days.

You are right though, there just isnt enough ranges around (good ones anyway) and the ones that are are mostly anti fun.

I love going to the range. Since I dont own my own i dont mind following the rules of those that do. If u do t find it fun, why go?
