My dad is goin to israel in a couple weeks. I was wondering if it was legal for him to purchase/ import some type of weapon back to California. If not is there anything cool he could bring back. Thank you!

There would be an incredible amount of hoops he would have to go through and do it all through a BATF approved importing company. That's just on our end, he would also face a lot of political, legal and monetary hoops in Israel.

NO. importing firearms from out of country is very hard and requires multiple licenses and clearances. Further, "foreign assault rifles" like the UZI, and Tavor are strictly banned under Federal law.

There are importation companies out there that mostly deal with antiques and very valuable guns.

Parts will be easier but still tricky.

If you are going there in person and you've got your eye on certain things before you go, there may be ways to avoid some of these hassles but I'll let you figure that out.

I think it would be very very hard and cost a lot to bring over a weapon. Both countries need to approve it and so forth

Not to mention the fact that moving guns from one country to another is a very big deal, there are many legal hoops to jump through

Almaster, thanks for expanding on those hoops I mentioned. Exporting and importing arms is a very tough thing to do that takes lots of money and time to lubricate the process.

A good gift would be a cross carved in Bethlehem from olive wood. I suppose you could buy those off the internet but hey. He can buy one in Ben Gurion airport while he's waiting for his plane.

Tell him don't send important info via email, and to change his passwords when he returns to the US. Keep a his passport on him or at least a copy of his passport on him at all times.

If he's staying in Tel Aviv, he should visit Joppa.. one of the oldest harbor cities in the world.

Also tell him to get a bus tour to Jerusalem if he can spare a day. The hotel can help him. Religious or no, it is rich in history. He can pick up a nice gift in Old Jerusalem (but I would only buy from the shop the guide recommends).

Pray for him if he has to drive. If he does and survives, you will notice he is more aggressive on the road when he returns.

There's a really nice shop called Michal Negrin in Ben Gurion airport where he can get some awesome jewelry / clothing for the women in his life. The women who work there are very helpful (and good looking).
