you might want to do some research before getting on a public bus.

      from L.A.'s MTA site:

"Entering a Metro facility or vehicle with a weapon or instrument intended for use as a weapon is prohibited. This provision does not apply to law enforcement or security personnel."

Amtrak allows you to check a weapon, with a number of provisions. Just google "Amtrak and firearms".

Yeah I'm definitely getting out when I possibly can. Just can't stand these laws.

Call local police, ask them what to do, or just ask for a ride?

You got no friends with a car? How do you go to the range then?

In this case, the most restrictive law is a federal one. Are you planning one getting out of the country?

And the defense is 'I intend to use this gun as sporting equipment; I'm on my way to a target range'. Similar restriction to the PC on 'armed criminal action'
              California Penal Code Section 25800

              (a) Every person who carries a loaded firearm with the
intent to commit a felony is guilty of armed criminal action.
              (b) Armed criminal action is punishable by imprisonment in a
county jail not exceeding one year, or in the state prison.
Prove intent; if one, in fact, commits a crime, then the intent may be accurately inferred.

But that might easily involve Lawyers before one gets out of custody, since some folks are 'a little up tight'.

The gun vault is great for travel or around the house for a quick lock up. It is big enough for my .45, 7 shot, and a mag. It is a great buy, sturdy, easy to use.

I looked at the penal code section from the metro rules pdf, which was P.C Section 653k, which was about switchblades....

Wouldn't it stand to reason that someone with a CCW could carry on Metro, even though they aren't carrying in order to go to a target range?

I think it would - but LTC wasn't suggested in the original post.

Actually you are wrong. A shotgun does NOT require a container when transporting but must remain unloaded at all times.

                          I'm no expert.

I did get pulled over the other day for a cell phone and they searched my car because they saw a maxpedition bag that can be used for conceal carry.

Just seeing that stupid bag I use for hiking was enough for them to get riled up thinking I'd be an easy arrest for illegal transport of a handgun.

A young man with a long gun *will* arouse suspicion, and very possibly get police intervention.

I'm sure you will transport it in a safe and legal manner. Regardless, *NOTHING* good can EVER come from a police encounter. It's their job to find a reason to arrest you. You may beat the rap, but you won't beat the ride.

                          Take a cab.

There is no possible good outcome if you travel with that rifle any other way. It simply isn't worth the risk.

worse comes to worse, ask for a ride from a calgunner. Somebody will help you. Nobody wants to see a guy risk trouble over nothing.

Oh and should've refused the search. That's what I would've done.
