Would you purchase a suppressor/silencer if...

This is just a curious question about noise suppressors/silencers. I know we cannot use them at the range etc. but was curious about their characteristics; longivity, actual noise decible reduction etc. I had no idea that the cost of those gadgets may very will excede the cost of the firearm one might want to fit one on.

Considering initial cost, which may also include a barrel change, would you still purchase one if legal in CA?

I can purchase some really spiffy "ears" for the price of a suppressor if "hearing loss prevention" is the sole purpose of the purchase. (Yes, I realize that in a self defense situation indoors, certainly nice to have, but...)

Would you purchase one just for your SD weapon; range toy; all your rifles and pistols?

Below are links to a couple of vendors, if interested.

If they were legal in CA I'd own a half dozen of them.

1- I wish I could use them when I bring a new shooter to the range.
2- I figure I'm going to loose my hearing if I ever have to shoot without ear muffs. :-(

I agree. We must legalize them...for the sake of the children!

I'd look at Defiance systems, they have silencers with locking mechanisms that can be used to stop slide mechanisms (For pistols capable of taking that pressure) and render the gun absolutely quiet.

So basically, when you budget for a firearm, you would add the cost of a suppressor as part of the overall cost. That's 200.00 for the ATF Tax Stamp per each, and for my 550.00 .40 pistol, the suppressor is about 700.00, and for the 775.00 9mm pistol, the suppressor is about 950.00 plus ATF share. (Cost as per Liberty Cans)

That makes my .40 cost about 1450.00...and the 9mm 1925.00. Hummm, that would certainly curb my firearm purchases. I might think of having one on the "house" pistol, but all...I don't think so.

Disclaimer: I know you cannot place a "value" on lost hearing. I know, I have substantial hearing loss.

If legal I'd buy one for my squirrel hunting rifle.

No need for a CCW handgun...too bulky.
Definitely need one for each home defense gun.
Range use only guns - No need. Everyone else on the public range is shooting something loud already.
Competition - One suppressor for each match gun.

IMO, they look stupid and I personally have no need or desire to have one, so my answer is no.

Needs to get on a ballot as "The children's hearing safety initiative" or something.
