    Simplifying DROS

I want a gun that they have at a gun shop in Ventura, and I spend two days driving round trip, ten days apart. WHY?

Why can't I do MY side of the DROS at ANY gun shop? Once it is in the computer then another dealer can pull it up and continue with specific gun paperwork. Why the in person bit at the selling store? I don't have to swear an oath or anything, so why show up in person? I will be there in person to pick up anyways, at which time I can fill out all the forms they want.

    Seems a waste.

So shop A has to rely on shop B to get the DROS paperwork correct? Then of course you'd have to have a copy of the DROS at both FFLs. The DROS fee, tack on another $10 for shop B? Many shops complain about only getting $10 for a PPT. I don't think they will be pleased with having to do more DROS paperwork.

You do have the option of having shop A ship to shop B and do all your paperwork there. You'll pay for it though.

You need to be the person on whom they run the background check.

To do that, you must be there to start the 10-day wait, and to pick up the gun, verifying you are the same person.

Your real issue is with the 10-day wait. That's just silly.

I can understand a 10 day wait, hell even a 30 day wait bit once you have your first gun you should be exempt.

There is a lot of stuff that could be done if the DROS software was updated from its early 90s vintage software. But that costs money, and the state figures why spend money, when the DROS money still flows in and eventually they can spend it on whatever they want?

Just get rid of DROS and use NICS. Think about how much money the state would save without a BOF dept?

The NICS only looks for major stuff. You can be refused in Ca. if you have an outstanding traffic ticket.

Okay maybe dealer A and Dealer B don't want to get into one another's filings. How about DROS at a BIG5 or Turner's and pick up at another store of the same chain?

It's just that I see no reason to be there in person, they can verify that I am me when I pick up the gun.

Sounds like a good way to help facilitate straw sales. I think the real issue here is let's get rid of the ten day wait.
www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms.

Now that you have seen the link how about sending a couple of bucks to CGF to help them stop all this idiocy.

It's not really a DROS issue. It's a Federal 4473 issue. You must sign the 4473 when you buy it and start the process. And you must sign it a second time when the firearm is delivered to you. It doesn't make any difference whether it's a 15 minute wait as in states with a "Instant" NICS check or a state like California where the process take 10 days.

The paper work is not transferable. So you can't sign the "application" (fillout the 4473 and sign it) in one store and then complete the transaction (sign it upon pick up) in another.
                              Poke'm with a stick!
