    Open carry vs Concealed

Even if the law was changed to allow open carry every where, would you?

    Why or why not?

I can see the benefit of being able to carry openly while hiking or such, WITHOUT the requirement to be hunting. But open carry in a city? These days? I see no real benefit. You can argue that open carry allows the BG to know who is and isn't armed, but personally I'd rather they NOT know.

I'd prefer to keep them guessing. If they don't know, it makes them think twice about mugging/robbing/raping someone. Depending on where you might be, open carry could make one a target of BGs.

Statistics show that violent crime is generally lower where concealed carry is readily allowed. That it went down after it became legal to do so.

While even allowing open carry would be an improvement here in CA and I would certainly do it, There are situations that open carry is just not do-able.
Walk in the park in the evening. Open carry would be fine
Taking Wife out for the evening dressed to the nines- definitely concealed carry.
In any type of fight, & especially gun fights, there are no winners ..... just varying degrees of losers. The only fight you win is the one you never get into.

I don't think I'd open carry but I would like to have a pistol on my work truck somewhere without worrying about getting stopped and transporting it illegally.
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

Well, you could move to Kansas. They don't have (or least didn't last time I was there) concealed carry. But as explained to me when I was pulled over in the speed trap, it would have been perfectly legal for me to have a loaded hand gun sitting on the dash.

But I get your point. It would be nice to be able to keep a loaded gun anywhere in the vehicle without needing a CCW permit.

I'd open carry from time to time, but probably not a ton.

If SHTF, open carry is just a "shoot me first!" flag.

I have a friend who doesn't own a firearm, but he says he appreciates the "gun nuts" because they make the bad guys think twice before robbing someone. He understands that the mere possibility of the victim being armed reduces the crime rate. Even people who aren't armed are safer when some fraction of the population can fight back.

I'm with Pthfndr on this. Concealed.

I would do it sometimes just to make a statement. Maybe get some other people together and do once a month where everyone open carries.

Carry concealed. You'll have the element of surprise if you need it. Though I have opened carried before in Arizona since there was no other way to carry, I still prefer to carry concealed.

Open carry sometimes, concealed carry other times. Keep the criminals guessing.

Chances are you'll be at the grocery store and it'll only be you carrying. You're going to become target number one.

lol ok same thing. What are the chances that at any store asides from a gun store that 5 out of 7 people will be carrying? This IS California we're talking about right?

Open carry for sixguns, automatics in shoulder holsters (they ride better there for me), and a derringer in my boot (right next to the straight razor)

When you catch that particular leprechaun let us all know ok?

Not a whole lot of guessing in this state who is armed and who isn't. I would like to see this state issue more CCWs.
