Lever guns are fun

I used to be a bolt action purist until I couldn't pass up a deal on a Legacy/Puma M-92 in .45 colt. Accurate, lightweight, easy recoil, and puts a serious thump downrange. Anybody who doesn't own a lever gun ought to try one out.
That said, I'm not in love with the ranch hand. Seems like it's neither rifle nor handgun.

I like the straight stocks so I went with the 1895G and modified the magazine to hold two more (same round count as yours). Also added a peep sight in back and a globe up front.

What I really want is a pistol version of the 1895G. I know there's a 45-70 revolver (already legal in CA since single action and > 6" barrel), but the lever action handgun in 45-70 would be bada**.

I was talking to the head of a local SWAT about my Marlin SBL, and he said he was out on an enforcement action and ran into a guy who was shooting a lever action rifle.

"No biggie, I'll just hide behind this here shipping conex container..."

He said it turned out to be a .45-70 Government, and the rounds were punching through the corrugated steel, going through the container contents, and punching through the steel on the side he was standing on.

That's why I always say, "Don't take cover, you'll only get hit standing still." That round is like an out of control fully loaded concrete mixer. Not much is going to stop it until it's ready to stop. That round has ruined many perfectly good oak trees.


I have to admit that I'm totally lusting after VictorFranko's new toy. I grew up shooting Rossi pump .22 rifles, and that Ranch Hand is off the cool scale. I totally need one... or maybe two. I want mine in .45-70 Government though.

My buddy had Marlin's Guide Gun in .45-70 and his standard load is a 300 Jacketed hollowpoint. I'm pretty certain it's not capable of that kind of penetration. Anybody using hard cast bullets in their lever guns or revolvers can shoot though a lot of things that most of us view as bullet stops.
