i never heard that,my friend is a member and said nothing.as for once a month open to public --they never do that---only once a year for public.they do host certain other clubs and rent their faculty's out to other gun clubs.but never open to publicMaywood got hit last year - County made them re-pave / seal the blacktop road as well as get their Permits updated cost them in the range of 40K to stay up and running. They also made it so they are open at least once a month to the public charge a fee so they can pay more taxes on the income.
--------------------------------------------------------------
no,they keep the membership set a low number to keep it from going nut's out there...Does anyone know if Maywood is taking any new members in?
and before someone bash's maywood for being uppity,it is a exclusive range and multi-use private land,it is also used for training for free by riverside police special weapons groups.Comment

I called and spoke with Bill today to see of there was anything he needed to help get the range reopened. His only suggestion was to call Code Enforcement and voice our disappointment. So I guess that's where we stand for now.If you are wondering if you can get a LTC in Riverside County: THE ANSWER IS YES!

the fantasy that RC code enforcement gives a damn about your rights to use your land in any way you see fit is hilarious to me. they care only about making sure that nobody does anything but sleep on their own land and use government and business for all their other needs. They'll cite you for growing food without a permit for christ's sake.Comment

I shoot there all the time you are right it is the Forest and she was wrong it is 100% legal to shoot there (as long as it is not closed during fire season). What is illegal is all the idiots leaving their trash it seems like everyone that goes there must leave something behind. I have spoke to a LEO Ranger up there and was told it was legal that normal forest rules apply FOR NOW for target shooting. He also told me that they may shut it down to target shooting because no one will clean up after themselves and allow hunting only. So please if you go and you see trash that someone else left behind which you will pick up a couple pieces ontop of your own it will help to keep it open.I was at Beas Canyon today and almost got a ticket from the ranger for shooting cans and an old empty helium canister that was left up there. She was cool and didn't give me the ticket but she did say that the land is Forestry and not BLM like I had thought. She also said thats it's actually illegal to shoot anywhere up there but they don't hassle anyone as long as it doesn't get over run by trash.
Also told me you can shoot paper targets, clay pigeons and spinner targets that's it.Last edited by David2531; 02-07-2012, 7:27 AM.Comment

Redneck I agree that complaining isn't likely to cause a change in policy or even for this case. However I would like to know what you suggest as a proactive way of maintaining our right to shoot on public AND private land. Other than complaining and pessimism I don't see anything productive in your post. Then again....this is the Internet.the fantasy that RC code enforcement gives a damn about your rights to use your land in any way you see fit is hilarious to me. they care only about making sure that nobody does anything but sleep on their own land and use government and business for all their other needs. If that's Riverside County territory then getting every Riverside Calguns member to politely call and write their county supervisor could help a whole lot. Code enforcement may not care what we think but the supervisors would like to get reelected and code enforcement works for them.Redneck I agree that complaining isn't likely to cause a change in policy or even for this case. Used to shoot at the Rockpile many years ago when there weren't so many homes up in the Gavalin Hills.
If Riverside County Code Enforcement got involved it is because someone or some people complained. I wouldn't be suprised if a group of homeowners in the area just up and decided that they don't want any shooting going on up there anymore. Either for safety reasons, fire possibility, trash, etc. I've lived in the area for over forty years and can remember when there was nothing up there.
There is also a nice range on the west end of the Gavalin Hills. It is well hidden and only accessible by jeep or pick up.
I don't really like the local ranges anymore anyway and just take a longer drive out to a quiet spot in the desert. You can do what you want out there.Last edited by Mojaveman; 03-11-2012, 9:24 PM."Any honest and hardworking man is made better yet by a large bowl of good chili."Comment

Hi Friends,
This morning I just received a very sad phone call from Jane, Bill's wife. She informed me that Bill recently passed away. Things are obviously on hold as the family works through their grief and loss. First the county shuts them down, and now this tragedy.
The family will need time to decide how to proceed from here.
Please keep Jane and their daughters in your prayers. This is a very difficult time for them all.Comment
