I would like to help in any way possible. The link posted is asking for donations, but I'd rather give to CGF, are they contemplating getting involved? Does anyone know what the extent of the issues are?

We should run out there sometime soon, Im over by Warren Rd on the other side from you.
A V-Dub shouldn't have a problem but I have a low slung Dodge Magnum and it's not suitable for the road - I've tried.

I'm right off Fairview and Florida and available to go shooting pretty much anytime.

I know allot of R.S.O deputies shot at The Rockpile and know Bill. Really surprised code enforcement got involved. Someone must have really been gunning to get the place shutdown.

I was at Beas Canyon today and almost got a ticket from the ranger for shooting cans and an old empty helium canister that was left up there. She was cool and didn't give me the ticket but she did say that the land is Forestry and not BLM like I had thought. She also said thats it's actually illegal to shoot anywhere up there but they don't hassle anyone as long as it doesn't get over run by trash.

Also told me you can shoot paper targets, clay pigeons and spinner targets that's it.

I highly doubt CGF is going to get involved with a local code enforcement issue. All though the owners should call Chuck Michel. I will see if I cant find out if they have retained council. The city has not released the full documentation or there demands yet, so it seems like everyone is just waiting. I dont live in Riverside county, so I dont know if the county is just extorting for fees or just wants to shut down ranges. Maywood hasnt had any problems.... If you have been there, you know the guy who owns it seems to be in the bag most of the day, and its not exactly "state of the art" of course, I like it that way... They did have a small fire last year, and they made some changes, but it can see the potential for issues.

I wonder if those pissed off looking cops had to stop at the gate and yell for someone to come let them in.... ha ha...

I talked with bill yesterday. he said the main issue was code enforcement was telling him shooting wasnt allowed on his piece of property. from what i could tell from the conversation regarding code enforcement and what his attorney is telling him, he thinks the place will be open again mid feburary.

I spoke to Jill, Bill's wife today

The county is claiming that the range is public rather than private. The key issues are they need to get a Conditional Use Permit (which could take 9 months), and they also have to remove the shooting bays and berms.

So clearly, this is going to take some time.

I was there years ago when some clown at our 3 gun match was using steel core ammo. A ricochet of a rock at 250 yds started a fire. Some of our RO's ran down range to try to stop it, but it was in full bloom when they got there, and they had to turn back.

The fire lit up the adjacent hills, and became a big problem for the fire department crews. The Rockpile range has been out of favor with the county ever since.

                      Thanks for the update.

Wow... I had no idea about the Rockpile's closure. I attempted to call Bill a few times and just got voice messages. This thread definitely explains now. Hope Bill can reopen his range soon.

Maywood got hit last year - County made them re-pave / seal the blacktop road as well as get their Permits updated cost them in the range of 40K to stay up and running. They also made it so they are open at least once a month to the public charge a fee so they can pay more taxes on the income.

I went out to Steal Peak Saturday . Where is the Rock Pile range in relation to Maywood ? And what does Maywood have ? I saw some shot guns and rifles. Do they have a pistol range there ?

Does anyone know if Maywood is taking any new members in? I was hoping to join the Rock Pile.
