Save them, turn them in to a shooting range. They will dispose of them, no charge.

use a kinetic hammer so you can reload that round.

      or

if you give it to the range, all they are going to do is disassemble that round and recycle the brass for themselves.

Wednesday was the day I experienced it for the first time. I heard a click and just held the trigger. Before I let the trigger go and before the reset happened (this was a good 3-5 secs.) it went bang.

FWIW- the ammo was TULA 76239.

thanks! i didn't know that could happen. i usually just extract them and throw them into my pocket for reloading.

I've heard these stories before but I just didn't think it would ever happen to me.

After what happened last Wednesday I wouldn't be doing that.

yeah after reading this post, i dont know what i'll do with the FTF rounds. maybe i'll make a small FTF box and take it to the range with me. 8"x8" square box using 1" thick steel.

Hang-fires rarely take longer than 30/60 seconds. A 30 count is safe, a 60 count is paranoia but safer. Remove round place in marked box for decommissioning.
...but their exists also in the human heart a depraved taste for equality, which impels the weak to attempt to lower the powerful to their own level, and reduces men to prefer equality in slavery to inequality with freedom.

stuff them in my pocket after i pick them up off the ground.. then they sit on top of the safe for a day or 10 then i toss them in the bowl on my reloading bench.. when i think of it i pull them and reload them...

This is the first I have heard of hang firing. I usually eject right after the second attempt.

I will be waiting from now on. Good to know.

I drop a small amount of oil and leave it for day or two before deprime.

No need to go overboard. A small coffee can will do. Outside of a chamber a rounds energy will be depleted in all directions. Most bullets will travel less than a few inches from the case.

If you'd like to test it take a coffee can and put a glop of sterno in it. Put a round laying down in the sterno. Light the sterno and wait for the round to cook off. It probably won't even dent the can much less puncture it. Of course take some precautions, the sterno may splatter a little so I would stay several feet away from the can until you hear the round pop.

The test I did I wanted to see how far the bullet would travel so I suspended the rounds over the can of sterno with coat hanger wire hand wrapped around the brass. IIRC most of the brass stayed put in the wire. I tested 9mm, 40, 45, 5.56 and 308 and they all had similar results.
