Syn. Motor Oil as Lube?

I've got a quart of Mobil 1 I bought years ago. A quart of motor oil lasts a long, long time when used as gun lube.

Anyone know specifically where to put a drop of oil on? Specifically on a XD/Glock

Nascar drivers use motor oil, and Delta Force uses hoppes on their personal weapons.

all jokes aside, I just put it on my project p226 and it feels nice. Racking the slide feels smooth. I almost feel as if this will increase the velocity of my rounds. Not sure, will try this out at the range.

I think a common alternative is ATF (auto transmission fluid) which some mix with a little synthetic motor oil.

ATF is fine alone for running the gun, but for long term storage, you will want to use oil (to prevent rust).

i found this galloncan in my dad's garage of some sort of 20yearold mystery grease that says aircraft on it, so you guys are saying i Have to eat this if i want to know if i should stop using it on my guns right

Seeing that froglube is just basically synthetic oil glorified to be the blood of jesus to kool aid drinkers out there...

I gotta say I lost it and ROFL's for a whole 5 minutes when UTV first referred to his posse as the "Froglube family".

Question:

If you breath in the fumes from motor oil being used on your gun, is it just as toxic as any other lube when it evaporates or is it better/worse?

I'm not doubting the fumes you breath in anyways from shooting aren't harmful

Im very thrifty. I replaced the "spring thing on the grip of the p226r" with a paperclip because spending $20 on a tiny piece of metal I can make is redic.

This is nowhere near the same as using motor oil for gun lube... Using a paper clip is a horrible idea. That little piece of "paper clip" you find in the Sigs is heat treated spring steel that is made to flex and retain it's shape.

Using a paperclip is simply a disaster waiting to happen. Please tell me you're joking and have a factory OEM spring in there.

I had to even shave off a part of the plastic from the grip because it wasnt flexing right and the trigger was sticking. However, it went through 300 rounds of reloads without a single hickup. This is a project gun and will not be used for anything serious.

My AK gets whatever motor oil I have around, synthetic or not. Runs like a champ, no abnormal wear whatsoever.
Seriously, if it will go 5,000 miles in a car's engine, which is a very extreme environment, it will do beautifully for your rifle for as long as it stays on there.
My AK uses corrosive ammo, so I clean it after every range trip anyway.
