How is standard full synthetic motor oil in lubricating firearms?

Gun lube is pretty cheap. A large can of CLP will last most folks a year or more.

I guess if you really have to pinch pennies, then you could even use your used motor oil.

Im very thrifty. I replaced the "spring thing on the grip of the p226r" with a paperclip because spending $20 on a tiny piece of metal I can make is redic.

Doesnt lube expire? I have gallons and boxes of military lube (will take a picture on a bit).

They all have an expiration date on them.

Works just fine. Resistant to heat, doesn't break down.
My AR's really like it as the BCG gets really hot from it's own... Stuff.
Always some fresh 5w-30 leftover from my Toyota and Silverado's oil changes.

Works well. But unlike froglube, try drinking motor oil! It's toxic!

I've used synthetic trans fluid for my 1919, works great but smokes like the dickens when the gun heats up.
