20mm round. It's in a metal link to link the ammo together. Not an expert, but maybe for a Vulcan Cannon off an A-10?

      A-10's have neither (a) a Vulcan, nor (b) a 20mm.

If it came from LA, it could be from the tail gun on a B-52 out of Barksdale ...

I agree on 20mm (measure the diameter of the boolit). That could be a a live round unless someone made the primer inert.

            Assume the worst.

I have a 20mm dummy round at Aberdeen proving ground and it's one solid piece of aluminum (?) and is gold coloured.

I think it they were testing a 20mm cannon on the LAV when I got one.... (it was damaged slightly, so they handed me one).

The link is part of a chain (in a chain gun) that breaks off when the chain gun fires.

A-10's are awesome, but that is not depleted uranium (at least to my trained eye).

This thing is a freaking hazard.

Probably 20mm from a LAV chain gun!

Not even close. The "chain" part of a chain gun refers to the chain that actually runs the gun. They are a single barreled machine gun that utilizes an electric motor, chain, and cogs to run the gun, as opposed to tapping gas off like an AR does or utilizing simple blow back or recoil like a 10/22 does. The main advantage being that if you have a dud round the weapon does not cease to operate, it keeps right on going and spits the dead round out on the ejection cycle.

Vulcans, mini-guns, gatling guns, are similar to chain guns in that they have an external power source to run the gun but they are all multi-barrel systems and chain guns are single barrels.

The "link" on the case is simply one link of the disintegrating link that holds a belt of ammunition together, just like the M-2 .50 cal, the M240, the 1919, etc.

I'm not a mil guy, just trying to let him know it may be a hot round. Which would worry me if I had one.

Yeah, I'm going with 20mm. And I'm getting nervous now.....thinking back, the guy at the yard sale said, "They usually take the primer out of these, but I would still be careful..." What did he mean "usually"??? Something made him doubt that it was done???

Anyone want this Piece of History?

Are you pulling our collective legs here?

Take a picture of the bottom of the round (primer) and you will know if it is potentially a problem.

As to worth - it is a liability.
