        No problem.

EODWRX - you don't post much, but when you do.. sounds like we should pay attention.

For some reason, this one had me worried about an old 20mm(?) round....

Yep, no need to change your flight. Thanks to EODWRX, the crisis has been handled!

No need to panic, but just to be absolutely sure it should be picked up by EOD. I can't tell exactly what it is from a picture, but it should be looked at.

I'm 90% sure it's a 20mm round. Thought it was strange that it was so heavy....not hollowed out at all. I'll call first thing in the morning. Believe me, I don't want this thing anymore.

So glad you saw this thread!

Yes. it is a 20mm round.

For reference a snapshot of some of my collection. My mentor had a better pic from his office that had .50BMG up to 40mm Bofors but I can't find it. Your round is on the left followed by 25mm (M242 "bushmaster" on Bradley/LAV) followed by 30x113 (M230 -on Apache, Humvee) followed by 30x173 (MK44/Bushmaster 2 on A-10, EFV, FCS ICV)

After seeing that pic, I strangely want an MK44 round! (Inert!)
It makes the 20mm look like a .223 round!

                          FINAL RESOLUTION!

Wanted to let everyone know what happened to this infamous 20mm round, so we can all sleep well at night (especially me).

I called up my local Sheriff's Department (SBSD), and told them the situation. They were kind enough to have a Detective from the Arson / Bomb Detail come visit me at my home. After thoroughly examining the round, he said it was a dummy round, however, he could not figure out how the gun powder was removed. He said dummy rounds are made with primers at times and that he was unable to "hear" the gun powder moving around inside.

He said I could keep it, but after everything I have learned about these rounds, and also, having picked it up at a garage sale and not knowing it's origin, I didn't want that thing in my sight! So, I let him take it away.

                            I have a better solution

                            - Take it to a local out door plinking range and fill it with .223 from a few hundred yards away

What's the worst that could happen?

Depends on whether or not it was actually an HE round or a practice round...

Yeah, if it was an HE round you would want to do it at night time
