I WISH I was pulling some legs! The metal clip is blocking the bottom so I can't see if theres a primer or not. BUT........my curiosity got the better of me....I think this thing is live. What do you guys think?

      Looks like it to me.

Do you live near someone who reloads (and REALLY knows their stuff) who might be willing to pull the bullet and remove the primer for you?

Even the primer in that thing could push that bullet hard enough to kill someone.

Its live. The firing pin puts 26VAC into the primer to fire it off If my memory is correct. Thats if its a Vulcan round like mine... This is a spent case with a real projectile tip and salt/sand inside...so when people shake it they think they hear gun powder HAHAHA.

If I am wrong and that just needs a bump to set it off... you should figure a way to make it inert or a felony could be coming your way if the wrong situation should occur.

I live in the Chino Hills area. Don't know anyone who would want to take this on. Kind of a pickle I got myself into here. If I get rid of it, I'm putting a live round out there...can't do that. And who would be willing to make this thing inert??

Screw that garage sale guy!! He sold me a %&@$ sandwich!

This thing is so rusty, it probably is from WWII!

Thanks for helping me feel better knowing that perhaps "a bump" can set it off. lol

Oh and don't worry.....I dish out the felonies!

It's probably not an electronic ignition round, if that makes you feel any better. It looks like a traditional primer to me, but it's been a while since I've seen a 20mm round up close and personal.

Also, the apparent age of the round suggests traditional ignition.

And static electricity is only in the 2kV to 12kV range. Don't worry, be happy. I kid, I kid. But don't drag your feed on the carpet or pet the cat while holding this.. I kid again.....

Seriously though, I would post in the reloading forum and see how to defuse that monsterous bomb you have there. You don't want to be tomorrows headlines.

Am I helping here? Where do you live so we can avoid the area?

Thanks Peter, that does make me feel better. This thing IS old and the primer sinks down a little, so the metal clip should block anything from hitting it.

I guess I shouldn't keep it under my pillow anymore.

Yes you are helping, good to know all the resources at my fingertips here in the forum. I'm still getting used to navigating around this wonderland.

Chances are, unless you're in NorCal, this round will still be able to reach out and touch you. I'll make sure it's pointed down....you don't live underground do you?

Seriously, I wish you the best. But I'm visiting relatives in Texas, so will probably be okay.

When are you going to defuse it? I need to know so I can change my flights...

LOL!!! No, of course I'm not above the law! Maybe too much coffee for you, maybe wrong usage of an emoticon on my part, , what I meant is, when I arrest someone, I go for the FELONY....hence, dishing it out. Whereas, normally, a criminal would commit a 211 or 245 and go back to his Mom's house (because he still lives at home) and go to sleep, instead, I get to catch him and 'dish out' a Felony. I wasn't at all referring to the 20mm round....just letting you know I'm not in the business of getting felonies myself. Hope that clears it up?

I probably got carried away....it seems to be easy to do that in here.

Thanks for checking in! Better to clarify then label me as something I'm not.

                                QUICK UPDATE!!!

So I was just informed by someone in the Explosives Ordnance Disposal what to do to properly dispose of this little gem I acquired. THANK YOU! This forum really is a great resource and I thank everyone who was involved in trying to figure out what I had. I see this as a HUGE VICTORY for the community we are a part of. THANK YOU CALGUNS!
