#*%!# Smith and Wesson.. UPDATE..They fixed it!

Went back 2 times but they fixed it. They polished the crap out of it, and it's just beautiful. The first trip they had it back in 7 days; the second trip they had it back in 5 days. While I was pissed when it happened, they did take care of me, so I'm happy now.

This means a lot from a compulsivegunbuyer. S&W should take notice.

Not to mention, damn thing was $690. The manufacturing processes are getting cheaper, and the gun more expensive. I can put one of my old Smiths next to any new one, and the drop in quality is plain as day. MIM, no hand fitting or attention to detail, only difference between this gun and a Taurus is the inflated price.

Take it easy. Not all S&W's are junk. Things break. Maybe you got a lemon.

I got a 686 and the cylinder will not go back in. I contacted S&W and am still waiting for the mail stamp to send it in. Once I get it repaired I might be selling it.

great....I just bought a new model 63 and was planning on shooting it for the first time on Friday. No offense but I hope you got a lemon.

I'll put a full brick though it and report back if my revolver self destructs.

Sorry about your frustration. I'm seeing the same problems with about everything it seems. Fords new ecoboost and transmissions are a good example. Cutting costs = cutting quality..

From what I hear, older S&W revolvers are the best, the newer ones can't hold a light to the previous models. Their manufacturing quality went down, methinks.

That sucks. Both of the last modern S&W's I've bought went back to the factory. My "regular" 627 developed "push off" after just a few range sessions, and the bead-blasted finish on my 627PC went back as it looked like it had rattled around in a tool drawer for a while.

The good news is that S&W will make it right.

                            What a S&W lemon Revolver!!!
It's hard to believe, coming from experience with S&W Revolvers. Looks like you might have gotten a lemon!

That's not exactly true; as manufacturing processes have changed, S&W is able to turn out revolvers over-and-over that have tighter tolerances and a better trigger out of the box than their equivalents from the 70's or 80's. (and I own A LOT of S&W's from the 50's to the present day).

A lot of gunnies (me included) don't like the aesthetic changes we see on the outside of the modern revolvers because it reminds us that ... things change. OTOH I absolutely frickin' LOVE my 629 Trail Boss snubbie, and my two 8-shot .357 627s. And they are all tack drivers with great triggers, even with MIM, the lock, having round butts, being made of stainless stell, having heavy barrels, and so on.

I have owned (still do, in fact) a couple "lemon" S&W's from the 70's - 80's that make me wonder "if several people were hand-fitting this mother@#er, how did they not notice _____?" S&W had a recall on a number of its guns over the years - the original 624, and the 586 and 581 models all had issues of varying stripes.

Truth is the majority of S&W revolvers were NOT the ultra-premium, hand-fitted Registered Magnums of yesteryear. They are still great, great guns IMO - it's just a shame that there seem to be 'rashes' of quality issues like this.
