So when the low-ballers come up with melt value there is a more realistic middle ground? It does drive me nuts to see used items selling for more than new but I move on.
With all this "gun control" talk, I've not heard one politician say how they plan on taking guns from criminals, just law abiding Citizens.

Ok, yes, people may tend to "overprice" used firearms (esp. here in CGN marketplace), but, from buying from a gun store, you have to pay sales tax, which often rapes the wallet even more (say you buy a $1,000 AR-15, then 8.75% of the price is charged, so you actually pay $1087.50 + DROS).

Also, even though people price their guns rather high in the marketplace, they often throw in sweeteners, such as ammo, mags, rebuild kits, accessories, etc.

Plus, there is room to bargain or trade, and if the seller becomes desperate and is in a hurry to sell, they will drop their price until someone swoops down and buys it up. I see it happen all the time.

But, your choice, guns bought new from a gun store have the advantage of factory warranty (depends on manufacturer), unlike used guns, which are usually sold "as is."
Your choice, although me personally, I love the used guns market from private sellers.

for me i would rather buy the older gun/ammo. there has been some serious QC problems from the best brands out there over the last 5 years or so.

a gun is not gallon of milk that will expire. 500 rounds is not even broken in.

many times there are extra mags, sights, etc to go with it plus no tax. i'll buy the lightly used gun for $100 or so less.

Don't like the price? Move on or make a offer. Not everyone who is selling things has to get rid of it. Some hold out for the highest price they can get. Nothing wrong with that. It's their choice to ask what they want and its your choice not to buy. To this day i simply do not understand why people get so upset over what someone is asking for their private property.
Another thing is people today have lost the art of haggling. i price my stuff accordingly because first I know i am gonna get lowballed and second i am not willing to give it away. besides WHY should I just put down the lowest price I am willing to take. Especially when i don't NEED to sell

There are far too many people that assume because something is for sale therefore the seller must be hurting for money so I'm gonna low ball them. The way to combat that is to simply ask a higher asking price. That IMO automatically gets rid of a lot of lowballers although not always. i had a guy offer me $350 for one of my Saiga 12s. I politely declined. Whenever I sold a gun its either been for the asking price just a tad under or got lowballed where I just laughed at the offer and moved on.

Eventually EVERYTHING sells. Some people can simply wait for the right buyer others cant. Just because YOU ( you meaning anyone not directed at a specific person) are not willing to pay by no means nobody else is willing to pay or make a realistic offer. I always entertain realistic offers.

Why do people ask top dollar for their hand Guns with 500 rounds down the pipe and two years old?
What's wrong with that? Isn't 500 rounds what Mfgs tell you to shoot to properly Break in a pistol.

Last time I heard, a Glock 17 went over 100,000 rounds, so let's just divide that up and say the average modern pistol can shoot oh let's say over 10,000 rounds without frame damage.

Are they trying to pull the wool over some ones eyes? It's just as easy to go down to your favorite Gun store and buy it on sale.
That is between the buyer and the seller. Why go down to the Gun shop when you may bet a safe queen and save 100 -200 dollars of mfg price.

If you've been in guns long enough you can basically tell if the gun looks to be in the shape the seller stated.

Go to the range shoot a few rounds, if you like it, and the price is good go for it.

I've seen a lot of junk sold off to buyers also at gun stores, so don't think your too safe buying from them.

                    This

Two years and 500 rounds is hardly any mileage at all.

Regardless of whether someone is a buyer or seller, if they don't know what the value of a firearm is, then there is no one to blame but the individuals involved.

When I sell a gun, I find it funny when people tell you that they can get it for x amount some where else... if you can get it that low some where else, why are you bugging me? Markets fix itself, if a gun is priced too high, it won't sell. If the seller isn't willing to lower selling price, it never sells. If seller wants to sell, price will get lowered.

Cause people pay it, and if they dont the seller can always lower the price.

Its also an ancient haggling technique which I will demonstrate with a $1000 AR15 which the seller paid.

Seller asks $1400, buyer offers $1000 because he can buy it for that much. Seller says he'll drop the price to $1200 and toss in some rebuild kits (costing less than the $200 difference). Buyer thinks he's getting the rifle at cost with some rebuild kits. Seller is up $200. The buyer may have over paid by a small percentage but he didn't have to wait, pay for shipping, pay taxes etc. So the buyer is really just breaking even on the deal while the seller is up some nominal profit.

I wish there was a general buyers guide on the for sale forum to get rid of threads like these.

If you're interested in the item based on your research, make a reasonable offer without citing how much cheaper you can buy it elsewhere. Ditto on everything else that has been said.

When I sell stuff, I make it clear that the price is firm. I do that because I know how much I'll need to let go of the item I'm selling, that way the first to agree to the price gets the it, and if no one replies then I don't sell because no one is willing to pay the minimum amount I'm willing to accept. No back and forth email, no wasting of anyone's time, no BS.

I have another topic for you to post:
What do new members feel that it's ok to make an offer at a lower than asking price to a seller in their listed item thread, instead of through a pm? Maybe a title of:
Why the lowball in plain view on my thread newbie?

I hereby offer all guns listed for sale in the for sale section a 100 dollar gift card that you would get at the local gun buyback

(this was not a genuine offer for purchase, simply a satire on gun buybacks. please return to your regularly scheduled forum activities)
