My buddy is a FFL and from the time they put the paperwork through, they know within like 5 to 15 minutes. How long it takes them to notify you is up to them.

10 day wait period

Yeah because everyone knows these laws get put into affect by Captain California. Right? Or some supernatural force that keeps us down. Why does California take 10 days when in almost every other state, including mine, it takes only a few minutes to do the "paperwork and checks"?
Last Saturday I went to the Portland, OR gun show and bought these, and took them home with me when I left the show.

"It's only 10 days". That's what people think when they have been beaten down and have become used to oppression. 10 days is 9 days, 23 hours, and 50 minutes too long to wait to take possession of YOUR property that YOU paid for.
If some day you move out of California you will realize just how wrong that statement is.

"Start believing that waiting 10 days to get this lightsaber you bought isn't THAT big of a deal, and your journey to the Dark Side will be complete!"
You can just shut the "oppressed" **** right down bro.
I couldn't give less of a **** about the ten day waiting period . Seriously. I'd rather have that then a group of ten gangbangers walking out of cal expo with ak47's. Im on the right side of the law, I don't have any reason why I CAN'T wait ten days to pick up my new rifle or handgun . I love my freedoms, but I support the ten day wait.Originally posted by TeddyBallgamemaybe I'm wrong, but, if a $50.00 investment can help me a bit, i'll just have to go a day without the hookers and blow to cover it

@chillincody, I think that anyone under the age of 21 should not be allowed to drive! Because the leading cause of death for young people age 12-19 is motor vehicle deaths. Now do you see California deciding to make that law? No, because then they loose income from all those fees one has to pay for getting a license, registering a vehicle and so on.

If the state really cared about human life/injury such as they claim with a "cooling off period" they would obviously put into law a higher driving age.
So to your point of thinking its a good thing to have a cooling off period, well I can tell you from VERY personal experience that if someone is mad enough to kill someone they are going to do it anyway they can! I've seen folks who have decided to use baseball bats, knives, cars, axes, gasoline (poured over their victims and set afire), fists, drowning, hands for strangulation, and well pushing someone out of the door of a fast moving vehicle! I'm sure I'm missing a few but the point is someone will use whatever is convenient at the time. Those that don't cool off in the time it takes to drive to the gun store, wait around to be helped, and then fill out that paperwork are going to harm the person they intend to even if they have to wait 10-11 days because they are plotters! Did you see that Jared Lee Loughner purchased his gun in November but didn't commit his crimes until January? He was a plotter and even would of passed CA states "cooling off period".
So now please tell me once again why you think its a good idea for a 10 day cooling off period?
1st you should read ALL my post i said im some what for the 10 day period should only be once not everytime . and i also said if a criminal wants to do something they will !!!!!!
2nd they have raised the driving age over time and it PROUBALY will end up changing .Due to yuong kids and bad choicesLaws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. Being on the "right side" of a bad law is not a good thing. The gangbangers you are worried about will get their guns from a car trunk in a dark alley for $100.Yeah because everyone knows these laws get put into affect by Captain California. Right? Or some supernatural force that keeps us down.

What if you did not own a gun and threats were made against you? Should you have to wait 10 days to arm yourself?
Criminals will get guns no matter what law you pass.
The 10 day wait does nothing to deter crime. If it did where is the proof? It is a bad law and there is no reason for it other than to dissuade people from purchasing firearms.Comment

Argue that the 10 day wait does anything other than deter firearm ownership. Also that it does not infringe on your 2A right to self defense considering my example of a person who feels threatens and would like to be armed immediately but CA will not allow it.Comment

didnt want to come off as a dick,,,but this all started over OP question being answered and a reason to the 10 day period then its been same stuff for 3 pages lolLaws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... well i guess i would have to say that i dont see ow it deters from firearm ownership .
and buying a gun only after your threaten like buying a car alarm after your cars broken into?or buying a fire system after your house burns down ?pretty dumb isnt itLaws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Some people are ignorant, then they are threatened or assaulted; this can be a wake up call for them. They deserve to have a firearm for personal protection ASAP. I would not call them dumb.
Many people install security systems after a break in. People a typically of the mindset that "it can't happen to me", so when it does they want to be better prepared in case it happens again or prevent it all together.
The 10 day wait absolutely deters people from buying. Say you take your buddy out shooting, they enjoy it and decide they might want their own gun. They go to the store, find what they like and go to buy it. They are then told that they can come back in 10 days. That might turn them off, they may decide it's not worth it.
What if you find the exact gun you want in a store that is several 4 hours away. You may pass on it because you will have to drive 8 hours TWICE. If there was no 10 day wait, you could just drive up and take it home saving a significant amount of time and money.Comment

FFL never receives a "yes".
They will only receive a "Do not release" and are to instruct the customer to contact the DOJ for the reason.
The FFL is not told why.
The DNR may come at any time... and there have been situations where it has come after the pickup day and the customer was ordered to return the gun.- Rich
