my friends and i all have done the 10 day thing . buy all my guns locally but i see what your saying tho...

and come on if you dont have the disipline to wait 10 days you proubally shouldnt own a gun imo ...

with that said ive stated earlier in this thread i fill the 10 day on every gun but only once like other states with a 10 day law so..fair compramise to me right
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. California is not the most strict.

In some states, you have to get a permit to PURCHASE a handgun, and some states limit you to one and only one handgun.

California's 1-every-30 does not apply if you have an 03FFL and a COE, and for C&R handguns and long guns, you are exempt from the 10 day wait.

If I was going to be killed in a heat of the moment murder I'd rather be shot by a gun someone just bought then beaten to death with a club or stabbed to death with a knife.
Just my 2 cents. And seriously anyone other then law abiding citizens won't wait for 10 days to pick up a gun. They get a gun off the streets without a serial number. Which also ties into the hi cap ban gangbangers don't say I can't buy these mags they are hi cap LOL.

I think you are missing the point. It is not about having the discipline to wait 10 days, it is the fact that you are not allowed to take possession of an item which is specifically protected by the constitution.

I understand that a 10 day wait for your first purchase sounds reasonable; it is a logical and a useful way to convince a non-gunner that the wait is pointless.

It is our right to own firearms, there is no need for compromise. Other states that have no waiting period do not have any issues, why would CA? People are even allowed to buy guns face to face with no background checks and there are very few issues.

The wait does nothing to prevent crime so it is not needed. If you want to live in a free society you have to accept that there are risks. I think that any non-prohibited person should be allowed to walk into a gun store and leave with a gun within the hour. They should be allowed to load up and carry however they like (several states allow this). Sure .001% could go commit a crime, there is always that risk, but a law wont stop them.

Bought today, "store policy" is 11th day, closed on Sunday, Monday is a holiday.
I sent the owner an email so we'll see. Maybe he'll make an exception.

I'm real disturbed by your submissive attitude on rolling over because their not "denying" your 2A right. Ever heard bout the frog boiling to death because the temperature was just increased gradually? The British didn't lose their gun rights over night, it was gradual. 10 days will become 11, then 12, then 13 and so on because "it's only one day more". Then more fees and taxing, then the roster will get smaller until one day everything is just gone. What if they had a 10 day waiting period on buying groceries? Why not, since criminals eat to get energy to commit crimes, right? You may think my comparasion between groceries and firearms is a little over the top but to many others in the rest of the United States, the 10 day wait is just that crazy.

Omg. Again, these laws were what the voters wanted. The PEOPLE decided there should be a wait. "the rest of america" must be to stupid to understand that. You act like people just woke up one day with notices stapled to their door restricting firearm purchases. Maybe over the last few decades, there was different stuff going on here than in Idaho , so maybe we needed to be more strict?

I couldn't give less of a **** about the ten day waiting period . Seriously. I'd rather have that then a group of ten gangbangers walking out of cal expo with ak47's. Im on the right side of the law, I don't have any reason why I CAN'T wait ten days to pick up my new rifle or handgun . I love my freedoms, but I support the ten day wait.

This is a perfect example why I believe California is a lost cause and will never get better regarding gun rights.

When you live in a state where some gun owners - not anti-gun rights activists but gun owners - agree with the positions of the Brady Campaign and say things that a Brady Bunch member would say ("I'd rather have that then a group of ten gangbangers walking out of cal expo with ak47's"), it's over. You have lost and the anti-gunners have won. The anti-gunners have successfully brainwashed enough Californians, including some gun owners, to accept nonsense. California will never be a "free state" regarding gun rights, no matter how many lawsuits Calguns Foundation files.

By the way, the Centers for Disease Control reviewed the studies of the effects of waiting periods on violent crime. This is what they found:

Waiting periods for firearm acquisition. Waiting periods for firearm acquisition require a specified delay between application for and acquisition of a firearm. Waiting periods have been established by the federal government and by states to allow time to check the applicant's background or to provide a "cooling-off" period for persons at risk of committing suicide or impulsive acts against others. Studies of the effects of waiting periods on violent outcomes yielded inconsistent results: some indicated a decrease in violent outcome associated with the delay and others indicated an increase.

Waiting periods, like most gun control laws, have little effect on violent crime, because criminals - being criminals - ignore them. They mostly impact law-abiding gun owners with little if any provable improvement in public safety.

I normally have to explain this to rabid ant-gunners on Huffington Post. When I have to explain this to a gun owner on a gun forum, that is truly sad.

How can you love something that you don't even have, and don't even realize that you don't have?
                              Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.
