    Another bad guy down...

This happened about a block from my work. I thought traffic was going to be bad going home but actually going my way it was pretty light. I wish the cops would take out bad guys and make light traffic every day!

So if I read that right he shot at the cops first earlier in the chase, right?

Where do you see that? Maybe the coffee hasn't kicked in yet but it seems like they lit him up when there was no immediate threat.

LoJack might be the best way to retrieve your stolen vehicle...but do you really want that SUV back now? Blech.

          Wrong.

It states that eariler in the chase, POLICE fired on the vehicle. At no time during the chase was a weapon mentioned in the suspect's (or should it be victim's) possession.

I'm curious if they found a weapon in the truck afterwards. I'm also curious why they felt deadly force was needed.

It's hard to say why they chose to shoot, but there have been numerous Grand Jury acquittals of officers who shot drivers who were using a vehicle as a weapon.
Single issue voting and the 'lesser-of-two-evils' mentality is what got us into this mess!

a family relative's only shooting incident so far (knock on wood), while on job was, they had a gang member stopped. he's the K9 so he was behind the honda.

sure enough, the dude floored the car. they had other officers in front and to the side.

his report said he fired since there were fellow officers in danger of being runned down...

No immediate threat? Where did you read this? From what I just read, it gave no reason as to the shooting. It didn't say that he tried to run them over, it didn't say he pointed a gun at them, didn't say anything. It did say they are conducting an ongoing investigation. Perhaps we should refrain from judgment before the facts come out.

From looking at the pics and reading about how the passenger survived apparently without any wounds, I am surprized that these are real California police officers... they are generally not known for their marksmanship.

As evidenced by the numerous bullet holes in the rear driver's side passenger door. Just because they told you at the academy that your pistol's rounds may maintain lethal velocity on the other side of a car door doesn't mean you should shoot through the door when the window is right there.

I was on the freeway in traffic when this incident occurred/concluded. It was on the news when I got home around 4pm from picking up my pistol at Ade's. Don't recall if the news reporter said the suspect had a gun or not.

                            Exactly.
I would rather they just drove it around for a couple weeks until they steal something else than get it back full of bullet holes and broken windows.

Sure, sounds great no punitive measures for the thief. That will end the car thefts. I dont like seeing this end to the situation either but he should not go scott free. How many innocent lives did he endanger flying through the steets at 90 miles an hour? I dont know the facts here but I assume a stolen car and a high speed chase are not conducive to a slap on the wrist.
