    How do you transport?

We do our plinking in the desert and generally I put the guns in the backseat and the ammo and other stuff in the back of my truck. They're not locked up or anything but unloaded and not in sight. I'm thinking I should be putting locks on them or put them in locked containers. How do you peeps transport your hardware?

Per state law I lock my unloaded RAW and handguns in dedicated boxes/cases (since the trunk is accessible from the passenger cabin in both vehicles), and the rest of the long guns are just in soft cases in the back.
WTB: French & Finnish firearms. WTS: raw honey, tumbled .45 ACP brass, stupid cat.

+1, as stated above. The only way to go.

RAW? So long guns don't have to be locked up?

Nope. Just put in their case unloaded and you're good to go.

I always keep my rifles and pistols in their cases, locked, and ammo near by-but never in the same container. My ammo is always in .50cal tins in the trunk.

It's fine if you want to travel that way, but not necessary for legal reasons. Just to clarify to the OP, it is perfectly legal to keep ammo in the same, locked, or unlocked container as your handguns or rifles (as long as it's not loaded in the gun.)

Ar in the trunk in its case, and the ammo in my range bag in the back seat.

So a locked case for the handguns and ammo in the bed of the truck is good to go.

Yes, that works. But as noted, ammo can be anywhere except loaded in the gun. No restrictions on transporting ammo.
