Best gun for noobs (especially antis) at the range?

Bolt action .22LR or semiauto .22LR pistol loaded 1 round at a time - I've seen new shooters freak out after 1 shot and then point the gun somewhere dangerous, so if that happens, I want it to be empty.

You know, that's sure good advice!

That describes some youtube vids I've seen where the shooter gives the line a good muzzle sweep LOL

Like most, I think a .22 pistol or .22 rifle is best. I've always used a .22 pistol my self for first-timers.

I think most of us will agree that it's our duty as gun owners to help introduce beginners to, and educated them about guns.

I've done this a hand full of times and I always start with an hour or so lesson at the house and teach them all about the gun, bullet, gun operation, safety, etc. I disassemble the weapon and teach them exactly how everything works inside, what makes the gun function and exactly what is going to happen when they pull the trigger.

I think if they see the weapon as a tool or a machine and know everything about what's going on inside they will be more comfortable with it and gets them interested on an intellectual level.

I then take them to a uncrowded range and start with a 22 pistol and move up to a .380.

Last week I took my girlfriend to a private range where she fired her first rifle. Worked great! Now she wants her own rifle and pistol

This is her first shot...notice how I'm not hovering above her telling her how to hold the weapon and how to disengage the safety. She's already comfortable with the weapon and know's how to operate it. At the range she wasn't worried about learning anything; she was just excited about firing the rifle. I like how she operates the safety without even looking. She had a blast all day.

You know, when I first started out, I felt that the semi-auto was usually easier to hold properly than a revolver.

IDK if this applies to other noobs, but I'm just throwing it out there.

The first calibers I shot were .22LR; 12ga #8 shot (Federal bulk pack0; and 124gr 9mm; and .45 ACP. Not too bad, tons of fun!
