Best gun for noobs (especially antis) at the range?

Either my 10/22 or my 1911 with 22 conversion kit on them. Once I feel they are comfortable enough I'll introduce them to 9mm.

I usually hand them my Vector (MP-5) clone with an aimpoint. A small light carbine in .40 cal. 13 y/o girls who have never touched a gun can shoot this thing accurately. They can keep both eyes open with the red dot sight and simply put the dot where you want the bullet to go. Very light carbine and very light recoil. Much easier to shoot than a pistol.

Like others have said, .22lr first and then a 9mm. The .22lr introduces them to the fun while a 9mm gives them a hint of the challenges of shooting. Unless they're naturals, they get an idea for the need to practice and why I purchase as much ammo as I do.

.22LR is great for starting out. Usually a bolt action or my 10/22 then I let them try my MK1 or MKII. After they are comfortable I bring out the 686 with .38 spl wadcutters. This seems to work well, nothing too big or scary.

If they get cocky, I hand them the 2in SP-101 with full house magnums and bring them down a notch

I've started people out with a sks and right before we're done I make them shoot the k98 just to guarantee them a bruise. But they always seem to have fun. I don't have the patients to deal with an anti, sorry guys.

might not be the best choices, but it's what I have. I've introduced new shooters using a sig 226 w/ .22lr conversion slide and a m1 carbine.

When ever I take a new shooters to the range, wether anti's or not, I have them start with the 22' rifles and pistols. Once I see how they do, I might let them move up to the 9mm handgun, AR stuff, maybe even the 45.

I agree totaly.
Something that gives them the best chance of hitting the target, not going to SCARE them with recoil or noise. For those on the fence, it also alows them to see cartridges as something other than people killers (don't explain assasin use! )

It is also a good idea to go to the range with them on a low use day / time.
Being surrounded buy al lot of other people shooting may be too intimidating for them to feel comfortable.

I have a Marlin 795 with a $20 scope for new shooters. It does the trick every time! I took my boys shooting last weekend for the first time and I had to buy another brick of ammo today!

Thats how I learned. I remember going shot for shot with my brother @ 25 yrds iron sights on balloons, can, bottles, jugs, clays, etc. Nothing like gallery type shooting to bring visual enjoyment to shooting. (he kicked my butt that day, AND he's three years younger).

For rifles I would choose something semi-automatic in a traditional style stock before I touched anything with a pistol grip or a bolt action. While I don't think there's anything wrong with our bolt actions and ARs I do think that a bolt is more difficult to work than a semi-automatic and the AR rifles scare antis.

For handguns I've taught people on a .380 auto and a .38 revolver. Both options worked very nicely for newbies and they weren't developing any flinching. A .22 probably would be better but I don't have one. Again though, I would choose an autoloader over a revolver in most situations.
