Safety of GunBroker.com?

Looking to buy my first gun through GunBroker.com. The buyer protection is only $400 and most sellers only accept MO or cashiers checks. My purchase is $1100.

Has anybody had any fraud experiences or issues here? I'm thinking heck, I send $1100 off and only have $400 guaranteed! With ebay, paypal and credit cards, I have far more protection so I'm a bit worried. Experiences anyone?

just be aware that it is very difficult to actually get gunbroker to pay up their $400 -- lots of complaints about this.

my personal experiences with gunbroker have been positive. I scrutinize the seller before sending money. Make sure the seller has a lot of positive feedback, especially as a seller. Look at past recent deals in amounts similar to yours. If the seller is new or has relatively little feedback I usually pass.

Check the seller's feedback before making a bid/purchase. Look to see that the seller is a legitimate FFL/gunbroker user, and once it passes that 'background check' and there is nothing that sets off your BS detector, bid away!

I've bought dozens of guns and several metric tons of ammunition/gun accessories from gunbroker with about 90% of transactions gone smoothly. I wouldn't worry so much.

ALWAYS pay with a USPS Money Order, it has tons of traceability.. People in the US tend Not to mess with the FEDS (they think twice before doing anything strange).. Feedback is ALWAYS important, Reputable FFL's don't need problems....

Buy from a business, rather than an individual. Find the phone number, talk to them to verify any information about the weapon you're looking at. If you buy from a business, you'll usually be able to pay with a credit card.

And yeah, look carefully at the feedback.

I agree with the feedback and the USOS Money Order! I've done lots of transaction on GB and (knock knock) I haven't had a single problem.

I just purchased my first firearm on gunbroker, after years of hesitation. I'm glad I finally did.

I agree with what everyone posted previously. Check seller feedback thoroughly and pay with USPS MO or CC.

Yeah sure, that works. What's the advantage of that compared to a certified cahiers check?

I've been buying on Gunbroker since 1999. Never had an issue. But I'll reiterate that keeping in mind at sellers/buyers feedback is important.

The advantage of a USPS money order Vs. a cashiers check from a bank is usually cost. A USPS Mo, will run you about a $1.10 for one... My bank (BOFA) charges $10.00 per cashiers check.
They're both traceable if there's a problem.

Haven't had a problem yet. I always look at feed back. You can kinda get a feel for the seller by the way they present the ad. Any hinkyness or hillbilly I skip it. I've bought from some really cool people on GunBroker.

I bought my Marlin lever gun off of Gunbroker. It was a super smooth transaction, not one issue. I payed using my CC. I looked at the sellers feedback and he also emailed me his phone number so i called him and we talked about the condition of the rifle and how to go about the buying process.

+1. i've bought guns and accessories from sellers on Gunbroker. i look at the sellers feedback history; the proof is in the puddin. all my transactions have been positive ones.
