I want to verify that this was the Turner's Outdoorsman at 1932 N. Tustin Street, in the city of Orange.
yes it was a that turners.

Just a quick update my friend the manager at Turners in corona called over to the Orange location and spoke with the gentleman that abused my fiance and i. he told me that the guy was a complete A-Hole on the phone. the manager Brian is out of the store till Tuesday i hope to hear from him then.

This is unacceptable behavior, there are better ways to explain the situation. I always laugh at these guys behind the counter. Give some people a little bit of power and they go nuts. I hardly ever go to Turners for this reason. And Turners in orange is the one that put the bad taste in my mouth. Very rude. Unacceptable.

There is a lot of onsense in this thread.

The whole point of the thread was the employee treating him and his fiance in an extremely rude and unprofessional manner. Regardless of how it looked, or where the money exchange happened, there are proper ways to go about these things. A simple, "Hey, can you please not do a monetery exchange on store property, thanks!" would have been sufficent, a simple "Hey, I can't do this transfer for you because it looks like your breaking the law" would have been fine, but yelling and making a scene in public is not acceptable under any circumstance within the work field.

That employee got off lucky imo, if it were me I would have made his life a living hell and made sure whoever was at the top of the chain got wind of this 'cause that just makes me pissed just reading about it.

There is no reason to treat potential customers like criminals, even if they are.

However, we keep running into this re-occurring theme: people are stopped from making transactions when there are possible "straw purchase" warning indicators.

I wish it was for the last time, but stop paying for other people's guns/transfers in front of minimum wage gun store employees and/or at big chain stores.

If it were me I would simply ask the woman, "Is this gun for you or are you buying it for him?" It is her straw purchase, not mine. If I take due diligence to ask questions and she answers them correctly, she is not lying on 11.a.

If I really wanted to pressure her because everything was really suspicious, I wouldn't raise my voice, I would just make something up along the lines of, "I just wanted to make sure you weren't buying it for this guy. I have to report any suspicious transfers and the CA DOJ and ATF will conduct further background checks and come to your house and make sure you still have the firearm in a few months. So I just want to make sure you aren't breaking any laws is all. I am glad you aren't."

And in all honesty, I did actually have a big money customer who buys a lot of guns get an ATF visit to make sure he wasn't a straw purchaser. It had nothing to do with me because I ship them all up to him in a different city.

I'd like to hear from an FFL ,but basically if they have suspicion to believe a straw transfer is taking place then they are required to act, at that point I am not sure any explanation is going to sway them if they are upset. Seems like some guys helping guide the GF purchase get this treatment as well, which really stinks because I would guess it is a pretty poisonous association that most firearm-inexperienced girlfriends are now going to make with their firearm, what should be a good memory is tainted.

Was the guy that yelled at you a 'meathead'?

I dealt with a large moronic meathead at Tunrner's in Orange a few years ago. He figured he knew more about guns than anyone else in the world, because he works at Turner's. This idiot was talking **** on the gun I was interested in purchasing and trying to tell me to buy something else, all while talking in a loud dickhead voice, just like that dude at Canyon Sports does. Wanna say the guy told us he was ex-military.

Walked out of the store and made my purchase at Turner's in Fountain Valley instead.

Not an FFL but, I've worked for one. Anyway, even the OP didn't have a problem with being told to go somewhere else. IT was the way that he and the seller were treated that is the problem. It sure sounds like the idiot behind the counter has a small wewe complex and felt the need to pound his chest and feel like a big man by belittling potential customers. That type of treatment is completely uncalled for.

I would also ask that a public letter of apology to everyone involved (including those who only witnessed the inappropriate behaviour) be posted on there front door, for one month, with the offending employee's name and picture on it. Finally, I can only hope that the manager makes it right by compensating all three of you for your time and extra expense of going to another store. Anything less would not be satisfactory to me.

That's HER problem. And anyway she is your wife, not your fiancee so it doesn't compare with the OP issue.

You know, if you are really unhappy, write a polite letter certified mail to the top 2 guys at Turners and bypass the little store manager who is not going to make a difference anyway. I think they were bought by an investment group 2 years ago. You could still find out the who the managing directors are. This is caused by lack of training and could be fixed.

I wish you got his name.. I do a lot of business at Turners Orange and would call them on it.. as it is I will most likely print this and take it with me next time.

                        There's no excuse for rudeness..

And they are really hyper sensitive to the "strawman" deal.. I did a transfer there once where the guy didn't have his second ID and his buddy said "I'll buy it then".. they didn't like that.. but they weren't dicks about it.

With 14 stores they have a LOT to lose if they run affoul of the ATF or Justice Dept.. so they are more picky than other stores. Still, no need to be aholes about it.

no problem with paying in the store as far as I am concerned..legally, or ethically. We, as ffl's assume it has to happen somewhere...may as well be in the safety of the store.

                            Employees behavior was unexcusable.

Since they are a FFL and in California we are required to do a PPT at a FFL. This should be expected. I have done many PPTs where I ended up buying other items while there. Not to mention I have spent a lot of money at the establishment when not doing a PPT.
