Completely unprofessional behavior at Turners in Orange

Hi all i debated on posting this because I'm not usually one to bring out negativity in a situation but its been almost 24 hours and I'm still appalled at the way i was treated at the turners in Orange I have been a longtime customer of the one in corona (ive made friends with the manager because im in there so often... i own 10 guns and i bring them to him to for goodies like optics, hand guards etc...) but never have i been to the one in orange, and i will never ever go back. Ok so on to my story.

My Fiance is a nurse and has access to medicine which makes her a target for Junkies and other unsavory types. about a month ago something happened that made her decide to try to get her CCW (we live in riverside county). we looked on calguns and found the perfect gun for her. We contacted the seller and per his suggestion we decided to meet at turners in orange to do the DROS. on the way there we stopped at the drivethru atm and since i was driving i took the money out of our account and we made the trek from riverside to orange.

Upon arriving there, we were a little early so we were looking around at different guns and making general conversation with the staff when they asked if they could show us anything i said we were waiting for someone to do a transfer.

10 mins later our fellow calguns member shows up we go outside and look at the gun. A minute later we return inside to start the DROS process. My fiance and the current owner give them their ids while I count our money and and hand it to the owner who took it and put it in his pocket.

at this point another guy in a red shirt comes over grabs the two IDs from the person helping us and asks "who is selling this gun"? the seller answers I am. he then returns with "who is buying this gun"? my fiance says "i am". he then raises his voice and says "then why are you paying"?.i say i am paying for my fiance. i try to continue explaining that my fiance and I share our finances like most married couples do. but he cut me off

at this point if he had simply said that he thought that we were trying to do some sort of an illegal transfer and refused to do it, per the store policy that would have been fine. unfortunately that inst what happened.

This guy ( i wish i had gotten his name but was too in shock to look) begins to yell at us telling us what were doing was against the law and treating us as though we had just been caught stealing. He continued to yell loud enough that everyone in the store was looking at us. Asking again who the gun was for in a condescending tone he was humiliating us and we couldn't leave because he had their IDs. this big production ended when he hands the IDs to the guy that was helping us and tells us that hes going to make sure that we can never buy a gun again. after a moment he sternly returned their by flicking his wrist at us and told us to get out and yelled at us to never come back to his store again.

The three of us walked out in disbelief... we looked at each other like what the $%^&* just happened. we went to another gun shop and completed the DROS process without indecent. ironically we ran into a person who was in the turners at the same time we were, and said to me "what was that guys problem" and "i cant believe how rude that guy was to you" he went on to tell us that he left because he was yelling.

i would like to point out that i understand completely why he did not want to do my transfer, and in a strange way i'm glad he did not as it makes me feel a little safer knowing that he was doing his part to keep guns out of the hands of people who should not have them.

My only problem was the absolutely horrendous way in which we were treated like criminals and scolded and yelled at as such. in retrospect i can think of a hundred different ways that if i were in his shoes He could have said "i'm sorry i am not going to complete this transfer because i think it is suspicious and per my stores policy i am required to notify all the other turners in the area."

In closing if you feel the need to go to a turners i would avoid the one in Orange and encourage you to make the trek out to corona.

Thank you to all that are reading this.

P.S. after this experience i went out to the corona Turners and talked with the manager and he told me he would call the manager over at the Orange store and have him give me a call. I'll be sure to let you all know how that goes.

I can't defend their behavior, but yours was incorrect as well. Doing the deal (paying the seller) in someone elses establishment of selling guns is just plain rude. They do transfers because the state makes them do it for pretty much zero profit. You should have bought (paid) for the gun outside the store or off location, then went in the store for just the transfer.

Depends on the store. Some allow you to pay in the store and some ask you pay outside. Whatever the policy...it can be communicated in a professional, polite manner.

that occured to me after the fact but regardless there were a million professional ways that he could have handled it.

IIRC if they suspect a straw purchase then they can deny you. Big deal move on.

perhaps i'm misreading this but i dont mind that they thought it was a straw purchase i am glad they were being carefull. what i take offense to is the way the person yelled at and belittled us in front of everyone in the store.

I have at least 3 that I deal with and have never had any issues. Turner's (except for the Pasadena one) seems to have too many issues to even bother dealing with them.

Forgive me if I am wrong and correct me, but isn't a straw purchase when someone knowingly buys a gun for someone who is illegally unable to (ie felon)?

funny how america prides themselves in customer service and workmanship when things like this happen

and then people are suppose to be OK about it and move on?

no wonder a lot of jobs are going out of the country
