You keep on believing that. Plenty of stolen stuff is still fenced through pawn shops. They are about as ethical as bondsmen.
As far as "stolen items" at a pawnshop - it's a myth. Pawnbrokersoperate on a very strict set of rules. One is a strict reporting system which includes Make, Model and Serial number on everything that is sold to them. They also take in your ID info. Then they submit the entire package of info to the police to be run through the NCIC.Proud to be a SoCal expatriate currently living in DFW, TX.Comment

Please expose the name of this rip-off merchant pawn shop, so we can avoid the place.

Sorry, Chappie. Rape, Robbery and Murder are all crimes committed against someone's will.So your wife/girlfriend goes to get an oil change in her shiny new whatever, she has no idea it should only be $30. The charges her $150. Capitalism or ripoff? Hint: If you don't answer ripoff, I have some beachfront property for sale in the Mojave Desert.
Take off the rose colored glasses my friend, we as a society have a strict set of rules governing rape, robbery and murder. That means that it never happens, right?
If your wife (or mine - or one of my many young beautiful nubile mistresses) pay $150 for an oil change, what? Bad on her for not knowing better. Bad on me for for not letting her know what the cost of an oilchange is.Rest in Peace - Andrew Breitbart. A true student of Alinsky.

This, I'm going to take offense at.
As I noted in my original post, I was a pawnbroker for quite a while. I NEVER knowingly took in stolen merchandise. I reject the assertion.
Your experience in the industry is what, exactly?
You sound like the Brady folks who claim that RPGs and machine guns are sold openly at guns shows and that manufacturers go out of their way to market to gangbangers and thugs.
Well, Yipeee for you, Mister Uninformed.
Just go ahead and demonize an industry that you don't know anything about.
Aren't you just bitchen?
Kestryll...Ivan. Sorry. A smackdown is in order, here.Rest in Peace - Andrew Breitbart. A true student of Alinsky.

30 day wait time can be put to good use.The pawn shop can't sell them for 30 days, and most pawn shops don't even put them out until that 30 days is up. If they've been pawned, then she should go back and pay the money to get them back. I am not sure exactly how it works - I've never taken anything to a pawn shop in my life, never got a loan from a pawn shop, never did consignment through one, and all I've ever done at pawn shops is buy guns on display or PPTs (most recently, Bright Spot Pawn!!).
.
State that she had no right to legally sell. Did they fill out the intrafamily transfer forms required by the DOJ? I bet not. I bet that they were not registered to her yet. If they were still registered to the deceased and she was not an executor of the estate the question is - does she have the right to sell or did she commit an illegal act, therefore voiding the entire transaction? last time I checked my registered handguns were not community property in the sense that my wife is the registered owner - therefore cannot sell them.
I would let the pawnshop owner know that the guns were not hers to sell and that the deal needs to be rescinded. I think that they do not want to have the DOJ or ATF looking at their practices.
I could be wrong. my wife knows that my guns stay in the family - period.Last edited by jerryg1776; 09-03-2007, 1:29 AM.Comment

I know rape, robbery & murder are committed against someone's will. The point I was trying to make is that just because something is illegal or immoral, does NOT mean people are not going to do those things. Not all pawnbrokers are honest because the "rules" say that they have to be. But I think you helped prove my point on the lady being burned by the pawnshop. Bad on the pawnshop employee for taking advantage of the unsuspecting. Bad on her for going in blind. I know it's not illegal. But I do feel that it's unethical.Sorry, Chappie. You guys are funny... "He should sell her favorite ring and shoes, he should pimp her out, he should do this and that... "
They weren't HIS guns to do anything with. They belonged to HER father, who passed away. Therefore, they were HER guns to do with as she pleased.
You guys are talking like she screwed him out of his own property or something... They were technically HER guns, not his.
Now, whether or not she's totally stupid and got burned and ripped off because of her own stupidity, yes, no doubt about that.
But everybody has a right to be stupid with their own property.Comment

Sorry. I must have missed where it was some sort of moral or ethical obligation to offer a "fair price".I know rape, robbery & murder are committed against someone's will. Can you point out where it states that in the Gentleman's Handbook? The Bible? Somewhere?
Is there a similar entry where the shop is supposed to sell at a "fair price"?
The whole concept is absurd.
And here you go back with Sarah Brady's argument. Not all FFLs are honest because the "rules" say that they have to be...Not all pawnbrokers are honest because the "rules" say that they have to be.
Really? Prove it.
To paraphrase Kestryll, we can not nor should not dismiss or discount my theory that in the dark of night you molest sea anemones by candlelight just because "rules" say that you shouldn't.Rest in Peace - Andrew Breitbart. A true student of Alinsky.

Why yes as a matter of fact, I can. Perhaps you have heard of the "Golden Rule"? You know, the whole do unto others thing? Mom's usually teach it to their kids starting about the time that they start to walk and talk. I know breaking that rule is not punishable by fine or imprisonment or anything......................I'm just saying. It really isn't nice to intentionally cheat people. Just ask the business owning board members here. The one's that offer a good product at a fair price are STILL doing business. I'm not trying to start a pissing contest here, I just think it's a little extreme to imply that there are no dishonest pawnshops. C'mon, you can't honestly say that ALL pawnbrokers are completely honest. We all know that to be untrue. Granted, MOST probably are very honest. SOME are definitely dishonest. That's just the way it is.Sorry. I must have missed where it was some sort of moral or ethical obligation to offer a "fair price".
